I have a 4.0 Ford Ranger SOHC engine for sale. Someone I work with wanted me to replace the engine with a used engine in his Mom's 1997 Ford Ranger because it had a blown head gasket. I checked the compression on the engine and advised him to let me replace the head gasket. His mom said just replace the engine. We picked up a engine from B&R with 130,000 miles for 750 dollars. I decided to replace the head gasket and save this engine from becoming a core.
This engine has around 130,000 miles on it. I replaced:
Head gaskets
1 freeze plug
Lower gasket for the upper intake.
Valve cover gaskets
Oil pan gasket
Water pump gasket
Oil filter
Spark plugs
Spark plug wires
And oil.
The thermostat was just replaced before they brought me the truck so I reused it. When I got the engine from B&R one of the vent nipples was broken. A bolt for the dip stick broke and needs tapped. See pictures. Both are easy fixes. This engine fits in multiple vehicles. It comes with no warranty. This engine is commonly used to replace the 2.9 fuel injection engine. The engine comes with new gaskets I didn't use. The flex plate is not in the pictures but comes with the engine.
