Serama chicks straight run $10 each, 6/$50 or 13/$100
hatch date: 06/02-06/04
Please pick a day and time to come out to pick them up and indicate how many chicks you want. I will bring out extras so you have some to choose from
About the chicks
-----------------------
+++ straight run...which means I can't tell you whether a chick is a pullet or a cock, at 4 weeks you can tell the sex of around 80% of the chicks
+++ The chicks will change coloring and patterns as they grow, so you can't tell for sure what you will have until they are grown.
+++ Chicks will need a brooder for 3-5 weeks
About the parents/Serama adults
--------------------------------------------
+++ Seramas are a landrace breed, so have a wide range of colors and patterns. I love the variety so am not breeding for a specific colors or patterns. That means you can get anything from white to black (but very few solid colors), and any pattern (barred/cuckoo, partridge, mottled, duck wing, wheaten, plain, probably more that I'm forgetting), and different feather types (straight (most will be these), frizzled (very few), silkied (very few))
+++ Seramas hand tame easily, even if they are older when you get them, and they are small enough to be kept in a parrot or similar sized cage as adults.
+++ The hens are good layers of quail sized white to light brown eggs, and they love to hatch out clutches of eggs. They make wonderful moms.
+++ Your kids will be able to tell their friends they had a 10 egg omelet for breakfast :)
What you will need
--------------------------
+++ a brooder with ability to start at 90F and drop as the chicks get older
+++ a no drown waterer - the older chicks can use a regular waterer
+++ chick starter (you may have to run through a blender to get small enough)
+++ small sized grit
+++ vitamins and electrolytes that you can add to their water
Where and when to pick up
----------------------------------
+++ I will provide my address once you have made an appointment to come
+++ If you change your mind, please let me know you won't be coming
+++ for figuring travel time, use High Cedars Golf Course
+++ You will need to bring a small box with a towel or something soft on the bottom to take them home in
Serama tips
----------------
+++ If your seramas pile up at night, they are too cold and you will likely lose some to smothering if you don't add more heat.
+++ As they get older, if they bite you, they need more protein. I use boiled egg yolks, tuna fish, and mealy worms when I have them.
+++ If you have frizzled chicks/adults, they will be more likely to be cold, and they cannot fly (or not very well), so where the straight feathered seramas can perch for the night on perches 6 feet or more off the ground, the frizzles will need perches much closer to the ground (1-2 feet).
