Young hens aka pullets chocolate egger hatched 03-25-26. They have been vaccinated for mareks.
chocolate egger young hens/pullets $40 each or 4/$150
This is my 2nd year with these. They are black with irridescence, some with copper neck markings and some with feathered legs. They are very docile as hens and lay large dark brown eggs. The early eggs have a reddish tint to them, but by the end of a year, the eggs are milk chocolate brown. They like free ranging but adapt to being penned up. They aren't noisy birds.
I have other young hens/pullets that are the same age and price so you can mix and match for a variety of egg shell colors:
Brown Novogens - 6-7 russet brown shelled eggs per week
Olive eggers - 5-6 green to olive shelled eggs per week (85% will be solid green, the rest will be light to dark brown)
Easter eggers - 5-6 blue shelled eggs per week (~ 85% of their eggs are blue, the rest are cream hues)
White novogens - 6-7 white shelled eggs per week
Ash (smoky gray chicken) - 5-6 brown shelled eggs per week
Info from the hatchery:
Parent Stock for the Chocolate Egger is a Black Copper Maran Father on a Rhode Island Red Hen.
Note from me: The hatchery write up doesn't mention when they will start laying, mine started at around 22 weeks.
Note from me: The hatchery write up doesn't mention how many eggs per week you should expect, mine are laying at 4-5 eggs per week
Egg shell color is dark brown and the eggs are large
They are calm and docile
They are tolerant of both cold and hot climates
Note from me: the hatchery doesn't say they are dual purpose, but their size looks very much like they are. They don't fly much other than to get up on their perches at night. They tolerate both being penned in a large yard and free range.
Regarding communication and sales:
I use email to do communications to set up see/buy appointments. I have had poultry stolen when I used phone/text.
I don't monitor emails or sell on Sundays.
