Antique, man killing “Misery Whip”, 2 man Crosscut logging saw, original condition, missing handles.
I can find no identifying markings but told it's a Simonds 520. These old saws were made from crucible steel, taper ground with this one having four-cutting-one-raker type of “Lance Tooth” teeth design. Full blade length is 6 1/2 feet or 78" long, including the part the handle attaches too. Blade thickness is difficult to measure because of lite rust, I measured 2.12mm to 2.48 mm.
CONDITION:
Would look good displayed as is, painted or letters laser cut out for art/decor. Blade is covered in lite rust but surprisingly in sturdy shape. Two close-up photos show two teeth that are partially missing the tips. Blade ends appear to have 2-3 teeth missing but that's not the case, it was manufactured that way to allow for secure handle attachment. The photos show a tiny triangular notch on the back that helped seat/attach a loop-style handle, which doesn't use the pin holes. The notch provided greater rigidity and leverage.
