Goodwill's Milgard Work Opportunity Center in Tacoma provides a12 weeks of hands-on Culinary training program with job search and resume assistance to get you ready to land that job. This is hands-on training; you will learn necessary job skills for an entry level position in the foodservice industry while training and preparing food in a real-world setting. Scholarships are available to qualifying participants. If you are responsible, reliable and hardworking but need skills training to get a start in the restaurant industry, this program may be just the thing for you!
The Culinary Skills Training Program is designed as a train-while-working program to prepare students for entry level positions in the food service industry as a prep cook, pantry cook, line cook, pastry cook or dishwasher.
Hands-on training takes place in the Neighborhood Bistro, a cafeteria-style breakfast and lunch restaurant, open to the public in Goodwill's Milgard Work Opportunity Center. Training is unpaid, but performance incentives are awarded to students throughout the program.
The 12-week course schedule is 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The program structure is approximately 85% hands-on training and 15% classroom time. Scholarships are available if third-party funding is not. Training is free!
