History:
Continental Coffee Company was founded in Chicago in 1915 by Jacob Cohn, selling coffee to local restaurants and cafeterias. In the 1940's, 1950's and 1960's, the company expanded rapidly by acquiring various competitors and smaller brands, which likely included the Royal Corona line. The Royal Corona Coffee brand was associated with the Commercial Importing Company in Seattle and was one of the Seattle coffee roasters that helped establish Seattle as a coffee roasting and distribution hub, thanks to its port access for importing "green" coffee beans and shipping bulk coffee. This Vaculator was shipped from Chicago to the Royal Corona Coffee Company, located at 621 Western Avenue in Seattle, most likely in the 1940's.
The Royal Corona Coffee brand was a locally roasted and packaged coffee popular in the Seattle area from around 1920 through the 1940's. It was sold in bulk tins featuring colorful lithographed graphics, often including a burro or Mexican-themed imagery with a man in a sombrero, reflecting a "Corona" branding that evoked a sunny, exotic vibe, though it was very much a Seattle product. Their vintage tins are valuable collectible antiques today.
