We've owned this car for at least a dozen years and it's been fantastic: a tank that was perfect for teaching the kids to drive and also for long trips -- most recently around Vancouver Island last summer. The interior is in good shape, the exterior has no dents, but reflects its age -- a scrape or two, some dings and a little bit of surface rust on the back hatch and by the gas filler.
Pros:
Great in rain and snow
Reliable
Head gaskets, valves, water pump, timing kit done at 205K miles
Recent brakes
Fresh oil change
Paid for college back in the day working as an auto mechanic, so I know this car very well -- and can offer help with any issues you may run into with it.
Cons:
Engine has piston slap when cold (common problem with this engine -- goes away once engine warms up. Has had this for at least 30k miles)
A little bit of smoke on cold startup
Possible oil leak - noticed when changing this last oil filter. Could have been the filter gasket itself (in which case, it's fixed), filter housing gasket, or pan gasket.
Great car to fix up or just let it run on forever.
