Matthew and Williams Boatworks is a wooden boat repair shop located on the Lake Washington Ship Canal near Ballard. We are looking for candidates who share our mission of preserving wooden boats through skilled craftsmanship. All skill levels are encouraged to apply.
Shop Assistant ($20.76-$22/hour)- We are looking for a part-time assistant to help with cleaning, tool maintenance, and to assist with projects at our shop. A great candidate would have a strong work ethic and an interest in wooden boats or woodworking. Woodworking experience a plus but not required. This position is a great way to gain experience and exposure to the shop environment, and for the right person to work towards an apprenticeship.
Apprentice ($22–$30/hour DOE)- Ideal for a person with a strong background in woodworking looking to develop their skills in traditional boat repair. Prior professional experience and/or education in woodworking is highly preferred. A willingness to learn, attention to detail, and tool proficiency are essential.
Shipwright ($30–$45/hour DOE)- We’re looking for an experienced shipwright with a strong foundation in all aspects of wooden boat repair. Experience in boating and other supporting trades is a plus. We are seeking someone with exceptional craftsmanship, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment.
