Plant People Northwest is a small, sustainable gardening business providing design, installation and maintenance in North Seattle, Shoreline, Lake Forest Park and Magnolia. Find out more about us at www.plantpeoplenw.com. We value a very high quality of work and excellent client communication. We also deeply value the job satisfaction and happiness of the crew. This is a nurturing environment and a close-knit team, with opportunities for growth and advancement.
Company health insurance is available for folks scheduled 32 hrs/ week, which honors the limits of our bodies and promotes a healthy work-life balance.
We use only electric power tools. We do not mow lawns. We maintain our gardens without the use of toxic chemicals, with a focus on soil health and "right plant, right place". We pride ourselves on skillful pruning and have attended many classes with Plant Amnesty.
We seek an experienced gardener to join our year-round crew, at 4 to 5 days per week. Our days go from 8 am to 3:30/4 pm. The right candidate will have worked in professional gardening for at least one year with another horticulture-focused fine gardening company.
As part of our interview process, we will share a plant list with you. If you believe you can ID at least 60% of the listed plants by sight and know how to prune them correctly, we can proceed to schedule an interview. Our interview process also includes a paid "Working Interview". This half-day of working alongside a manager and being quizzed on plant ID and pruning helps inform where you would fall on our wage scale.
Daily work will include pruning, weeding, mulching, planting, fertilizing and more. You will occasionally assist on microspray irrigation, carpentry, and hardscape projects. If you are curious, reliable, energetic, and eager to learn, you will be the right fit!
Basic Qualifications:
Work history showing 1+ year of professional gardening experience in a horticulture-focused company.
Be positive, punctual, detail-oriented, hardworking, and communicative.
Be able to manage time, prioritize tasks, and keep up a brisk (but not soul-crushing) pace all day.
Have the stamina to perform long hours of weeding, lifting, etc. in all kinds of weather.
Have a clean driving record, a reliable vehicle for transportation to job sites, and a smartphone for accessing our calendar and other tools.
Note: We will give preference to folks located in Seattle and the immediately surrounding areas, so that your commute is reasonably predictable and you are able to be on time.
Pay and Benefits:
Starting pay is $24-25 depending on level of experience and assessed knowledge. If you have the credentials and leadership qualities, we will train you toward crew leadership as quickly as possible, which comes with an additional raise!
Benefits include:
Paid sick time
Yearly $500 clothing stipend after 90 days
50% of your premium for health, dental, vision and life insurance after 90 days, for those scheduled a minimum of 32 hrs/ week
