YouthCare builds confidence and self-sufficiency for young people experiencing homelessness ages 12-24 by providing a continuum of care that includes homelessness prevention, street outreach, basic services, emergency shelter, housing, counseling, education, and employment training. Founded in 1974 as a three-bed emergency shelter program, our continuum now operates across nine locations and a variety of community-based partnerships. Several of our programs are national models, and we are a leader locally and across the country in serving runaway young people and young people experiencing homelessness, as well as young people who have experienced sexual exploitation.

YouthCare is currently seeking Youth Counselor - Outreach (Young Adult Shelter) at our Orion Center location. Under the supervision of the Overnight Shelter Program Supervisor, the Youth Counselor - Outreach is responsible for the oversight of the Young Adult Shelter (YAS) Youth Leader Program located at YouthCare's Orion Center. The position will work with young people and their Case Managers to create and hold young people to 60-90- day goal plans which include employment and housing goals. The position will also aid in recruitment and outreach for shelter Youth Leaders and work with Youth Leaders on any necessary behavior and support plans.
In conjunction with the Overnight Shelter Program Supervisor, the Youth Counselor - Outreach is responsible for completing client paperwork and records, entering data into the database, and performing shelter office hours. The position has primary responsibility for keeping accurate Youth Leader files.
The Youth Counselor - Outreach will be scheduled on floor shifts several nights per week at the shelter including being responsible for the supervision of 20 shelter guests (ages 18-24) and the nightly management of the program site. In conjunction with other shelter staff, the Youth Counselor - Outreach's task is to create a safe and supportive environment for shelter guests. All shelter staff must be comfortable establishing appropriate boundaries and setting firm limits for shelter guests, enforcing shelter rules, providing crisis intervention and attending meetings.

Successful candidates will have:
• Experience working successfully with young people experiencing homelessness or vulnerable young people
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to effectively manage client and program records and files
• Deep understanding of agency philosophy including harm reduction, positive youth development, and conflict resolution
• Ability to work as a member of a team
• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience and credentials must comply with program contract requirements.
