Child Development Department staff support the Neighborhood House mission framework and Strategic Plan by contributing to the school readiness of low-income children and supporting their parents, care givers and community. The primary responsibilities are to provide accurate data entry of family information into Management Information Systems (including Child Plus), to maintain accurate family files and to assist with recruitment and enrollment efforts.

  • Accurately enter family information for EHS, SA, and HS families into the Child Plus database.
  • Provide assistance in recruiting and enrolling eligible families in the Head Start, Step Ahead and Early Head Start programs and determine eligibility based upon Head Start and Step Ahead regulations and NH criteria.
  • Maintain accurate electronic and paper based data records for HS, SA & EHS children.
  • Assist with the preparation of data reports (attendance, demographic information, etc.) upon request.
  • Maintain accurate attendance and home visit completion records and provide weekly reports to staff.
  • Maintain accurate, meal counts and verify accuracy of meal counts with attendance.
  • Maintain accurate records of in-kind contributions and, Head Start/ Early Head Start volunteer hours, and in-kind contributions; prepare and submit required reports and prepare monthly reports.
  • Provide Child Plus and/or other Head Start Data management software support and training to Head Start and Early Head Start program staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  • AA degree in human services, BA preferred; plus 2 years professional experience in human services field. A combination of equivalent experience and training may be substituted for the education requirement with the recommendation of the interview committee and approval of the Head Start Director and Policy Council.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skill of Excel and Access software programs.
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and considerable self-direction.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with individuals from a wide range of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness to comply with the established agency performance standards which may include: productivity/personal responsibility, client/customer service-orientation, embracing a team player orientation, entrepreneurialism, and maintaining a professional demeanor.
  • Willingness to comply with Head Start Standards of Conduct by promoting the unique identity of each child and family; conforming with program confidentiality; following child supervision and guidance policies; and refraining from soliciting or accepting personal gratuities, favors, or anything of significant monetary value from contractors or potential contractors.
  • First Aid Certification (within 30 days of hire).
  • CPR Certification (within 30 days of hire).
  • Sexual Harassment Training within 30 days of hire.
  • Current Blood Borne Pathogens training certificate within 30 days of employment (maintain current certificate during employment).
  • Child Abuse and Neglect training (within 2 weeks of hire).
  • Current Health Exam (must be obtained prior to employment {PS 1304.52})
  • Current screening for tuberculosis (must be obtained prior to employment); rescreen as necessary{PS 1304.52}).
  • Department of Early Learning portable background check.
  • Must pass Neighborhood House Background Check Requirement.
  • Position requires Washington State bi-annual criminal background re-check.

Desired Qualifications

  • Current or former Head Start and Early Head Start parents receive preference for employment vacancies for which they are qualified.
  • Experience working with groups and/or families from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Bilingual ability.
