I'm looking for help finishing up and starting up a new forum for exploring and understanding matters of importance.

Topics work by short sessions that last an hour or two, to be taken online or in small community groups. Each session is composed of perspectives that users can vote on, as well as resources and other material to guide the process forward. Topics is based on the idea that there is always something true and what you oppose, and that it is possible to bring all views together in a respectful, transformative resolution.

We badly need new forums for learning - places that are not part of academia or business, that don't require much money, and that don't have a political bias. Instead of learning about a subject or intellectual tradition, Topics ask the user to reach the goal of resolving a human problem, one that is of vital importance in the life of the individual, at the level at which it was created.

- It is community based but scalable, and available wherever there is interest.
- It is decentralized. Anyone can start a Topic, and anyone can contribute to content.
- It is connected to tools for practical, personal action (the larger Visionary Society network).

You can get involved in the area that interests you:
➞  Review how Topics works currently and help decide on improvements that we may want to make.
➞  Start out by creating one or two topics of your own on an issue of your choice, and then offer them to the community. (Some ideas are listed at the bottom of the Topics page at "Some thoughts about a core group of Topics...")
➞  Develop programs in any of the following areas: Personal issues (for example, suffering, love, ), Political issues, Global conflict, Places (museums, hospitals, cinemas, etc). Create a core group of Topics yourself or hire others to do this.
➞  Start and manage a Meetup group to offer Topics to the public on a regular basis.
➞  Develop and begin a plan for promoting Topics to the public, including online and face-to-face.
- Offer Topics to the staff and customers of businesses (Cafes, Hotels, Stores, Hospitals, etc.).
- Promote community wide learning on specific political and social themes.

Topics has been under development for a few years as part of a broader project called Visionary Society, with the goal of bringing deep reflection together with various forms of personal, practical action. These other areas (Places, Requests, Projects and Challenges) are also underway.

We want to present Topics as a new educational platform that we offer to the public. The time is certainly ripe for this, the need is great, the opportunity exists. I'm looking for someone to help take some elements of this project forward, with experience or skills in education, project management, publicity, or any other relevant area. But the main thing at this point is that I need to work with someone who has looked at Topics, grasps what we are trying to do and are actually doing, and believes that it is a practical and profound solution to one of our most basic and pressing contemporary needs.

Through your experience in various educational settings, have you come to believe that we need something stronger? Assuming that this really is a profound way of understanding, do you think that we can reach the public, who are clearly not prepared for this?

. About $20 per hour, depending on skills and experience and the work we agree to. I see this as being part-time, involving a few hours per week as we get things going, but could certainly involve more as Projects grows.

To get a sense of Topics, please look at the home page and then click on Popular Topics at the bottom of the page for a sample of how Topics works. Feel free to contact me to discuss this further (and explain why you are interested, qualified, and how you might be interested in contributing).
