The New Bethlehem Day Center in Kirkland provides a welcoming and resource-rich daytime destination for families on the East side of King County who are experiencing homelessness. New Bethlehem provides essential services including showers, meals, laundry, onsite case management, and a comprehensive network which works together to return families to stable permanent housing as soon as possible. The program is open 7 days a week 2pm-8pm.
A multi-faceted position responsible for the coordination and stewardship of the New Bethlehem Project’s volunteer base. The goal of this position is to help coordinate activities, serve as a point of contact and mentor, and orientation for volunteers, and to harness their efforts for the homeless families NBP serves.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure a strong and vibrant Volunteer Program
Recruit, train, retain, and supervise volunteers for New Bethlehem Day Center
Manage the day center’s sign-up system, the volunteer calendar which includes shift and meals sign ups, and work with website manager and the rest of the team to keep these updated.
Ensure all new volunteers have a tour of the Day Center, complete Volunteer packet and understanding our NBDC program
Work closely with the volunteer committee and act as a point of support and partner to our committee team leaders, supplies manager, and kitchen volunteer lead.
Review volunteers’ performance and provide needed reviews and feedback.
Lead volunteer orientations once a month.
Give talks and presentations at partner sites, help with recruitment in the community, and organization of events dedicated to recruitment and retention of volunteers
Work closely with project staff and fund development team in solidifying and executing a transition plan for the large volunteer base to have a smooth transition to working at our upcoming 24/7 facility opening in Summer 2020.
Fund Development Support and Communications
Collaborate with Program Manager and Capital Campaign manager in responsibilities related to Fundraising and Events.
Help with coordination of mailings and quarterly newsletter.
Responsible for entering and maintaining volunteer data in Raisers Edge.
Build and maintain good relationships with in-kind donor partners in the community.
Manage Volunteer Applications and Inquiries
Work with CCS Operations coordinator and New Bethlehem Program Manager to keep volunteers’ paperwork current, and to help facilitate approval of applications, background checks and more and maintain good condition of NBDC van.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Qualifications which applicants must possess to be considered for the position.)
AA Degree or at least 1 year similar work experience.
Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Basic Knowledge and experience working with computers (word, internet)
Strong interpersonal skills; ability to relate well to staff, residents, volunteers from diverse racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
Valid Washington State driver’s license or ability to get one with 60 days
Ability to foster an environment which honors and supports diversity and commitment to treating others with dignity and respect.
Ability to work within the mission, goals and objectives of Sacred Hear Shelter and Catholic Community Services
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: (Qualifications which are desired in applicant; however, applicants without these qualifications will not necessarily be excluded from consideration if they possess minimum qualifications.
Previous work experience in social service program serving people who are homeless.
