A rope tension snare drum is a historical, military-style drum that uses ropes, not modern metal tension rods, to pull the hoops and heads tight, creating a deep, resonant tone with excellent sound projection, common in field drumming for its durability and distinct, powerful sound. Tension is adjusted by sliding leather tabs (ears) on the ropes, allowing for simultaneous tuning of both heads and unique sonic character, making it a staple in military bands and for rudimental drummers.
