The Ducati Monster 797+ made its debut in 2017, stepping in to fill the gap left after Ducati retired the beloved air-cooled 696 and 796 models in 2014. Riders made it clear they still wanted a classic, trellis-framed Monster with approachable power and that unmistakable Ducati character—so the 797+ was born and carried on for the next five years.
This particular example is a 2018 Ducati Monster 797+ and is a single-owner bike, purchased new from Capital City Motorsports in Maryland before eventually making its way to the Pacific Northwest. With fewer than 5,000 miles on the odometer, it hasn’t required much beyond routine care, though what service it has received was performed at authorized dealers.
When the bike arrived at SUB, our technicians completed a full safety inspection and fitted a brand-new set of Pirelli tires. It remains largely original, with only a couple of tasteful upgrades: EvoTech frame sliders and a MotoDynamics tail tidy. Otherwise, it's an unmolested, clean Monster—exactly how many enthusiasts prefer them.
The bike comes with both factory keys, the owner’s manual, and a clean Washington title.
Extended warranty options are available.

The 2018 Ducati Monster 797+ delivers a classic Monster experience in a lighter, more approachable package that appeals to riders who want real Ducati character without jumping into high-powered territory. Its 803cc air-cooled L-twin makes roughly 73 horsepower, which gives it enough punch for spirited city riding, short highway stints, and winding backroads without ever feeling overwhelming. The bike’s trellis frame, compact proportions, and low overall weight make it easy to maneuver, confidence-inspiring for less experienced riders, and genuinely fun for anyone who appreciates a nimble, responsive naked bike.
Styling is unmistakably Ducati. The exposed frame, sculpted tank, and signature Monster stance give it strong curb appeal, while the “Plus” version adds a small flyscreen and a passenger seat cover that enhance the look. The ergonomics are neutral and upright, making it comfortable around town and on shorter rides, though the limited wind protection and narrow seat make long days in the saddle a bit less inviting.
Reliability feedback from owners is generally positive. Many have put tens of thousands of trouble-free miles on their 797s, though a few have noted issues like ignition coil failures or occasional stalling when coasting at low RPMs in high gear. These aren’t widespread problems, but they’re worth keeping in mind when evaluating a used example. Routine services, especially valve checks on the Desmodue engine, remain important.
Overall, the 2018 Monster 797+ is a great fit for riders who value simplicity, classic Ducati style, and an easygoing yet spirited ride. It isn’t a high-performance machine and doesn’t try to be one; instead, it offers an engaging, approachable, everyday Ducati that delivers plenty of charm for both new and seasoned riders. If you want approachable fun with genuine Italian character, the 797+ hits the mark. If you’re looking for touring comfort or aggressive power, you’ll likely want to step up to one of the larger Monsters.
