I'm Avery! I teach classical piano, and some jazz too. I teach all ages, all difficulties.
I've played piano for 16 years, taught for 4, and lived in Seattle for 1. I started giving public performances at 11, up until I turned 18 and started teaching on the side instead. While working toward a degree, I learned I enjoy teaching more than lab work, so I dropped out, moved, and now teach full time.
As a teacher, I tend to focus on technique, then theory, then audiation, but I'll tailor your learning experience accordingly. One of my students is a software engineer, and appreciates pitch frequency math in her theory. One of my students panics if I say "midpoint"! I'm flexible.
I'm currently looking for 3 more students to fill out my schedule. Contact me with your address and I'll quote you a rate. I charge:
$20 for 30 minutes,
$25 for 45 minutes,
$30 for an hour,
+$5 if I go to you,
and +$5 for every half hour (rounded up) the bus takes to get to you.
I currently live in the Central District, so for example, if you're in downtown Seattle, I'll charge $40 for an hour, because it takes me about 20 minutes to bus there.
My hours are 9am to 9pm, I rarely give lessons longer than an hour, and long commutes are probably out of the question.
If you come to me, please keep in mind, my house is cluttered. I live with 4 other artists and 2 adorable cats named Silverstream and Nepeta. I can't provide an allergen-free or solemn practice environment. My piano is a Kawai ES8.
Lastly, if you are an adult who supports the presidential administration, does not support the rights of gender and sexual minorities, or does not support the rights of people of color, I won't teach you.
