For 15 years, I provided Japanese lessons primarily for individual with deep passionate hobby-related interests or life direction interest related to Japan. I have experience working with individual studying Japanese language for outcomes in real estate, company relocation/expansion, general interest, sports competition, and family reasons.
I have been moving around from country to country, which has made me realize the importance of the Japanese language as a combination of linguistics, cultural context, and history. I have introduced this concept into my tutoring, and successfully made my lesson more interesting and impressive.
I lived in Bellevue for 8 years and worked with a wide range of students. I worked primarily with children and computer scientists but also with travelers, hobbyists, and business-people. I previously worked in China, where I taught Japanese and American business people language basics necessary for their business functions and life adjustment. I have worked with clients of all ages; some with goals in business, some travel, and some learning for personal interest.
I have a B.A. in Economics from Top Ranking Japanese University Keio University and will lead your instruction using a customizable curriculum for JLPT N1 - N3 study. My curriculum utilizes multiple texts and a personalized mix of Japanese literature and/or news.
As a former tutor for business expats, I understood that their prime needs were to learn basic language. They need to set up their life quickly and be able to speak basic conversation in daily life, such as taking a taxi, making an order in restaurant, and asking for help. Once I had a client who could not speak any of the language they hope to soon use. I customized a short course for him and after one month of tutoring, he was able to make basic conversations and led a smooth start in his life.
With years of experience as a tutor, I have successfully helped students identify their strengths and weaknesses. I have focused on supporting students in vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension, which makes them confident while confronting tests. This has naturally guided me to teaching Japanese for the official Japanese Language Proficiency (JLPT) test. Whenever necessary, I will supplement JLPT instruction by introducing culture backgrounds which enable students to have a deep understanding. I want to draw out curiosity and passion from my students and wish them become lifelong language lovers while they achieve their goals.
