Attorney – Assessment Recovery for Condos and HOAs
Well established law firm with six attorneys seeks an attorney to handle assessment recovery for our clients. The work has some similarities to doing collection work, and some similarities to doing bank foreclosures. We send demand letters consistent with fair debt collection practices, but all the money owed is secured by liens on real estate. Following initial contact with delinquent owners, either payment plans are worked out or litigation commences. The volume of this work has dropped from its peak in 2014 but has held very steady for the past three years and provides a stable body of work from our client base of about 500 community associations.
The work involves motion practice, but we have done only one bench trial in the past 8 years for many hundreds of clients. We communicate primarily through email with our clients (typically board presidents or treasurers) and with professional managers who work as agents for our clients. We have a team of 4 paralegals which support three assessment recovery attorneys, plus additional administrative staff. We have a very casual work environment, and typically one or more employee will bring their dog to work with them. We are located in North Seattle on the 358 bus line, with plenty of free parking in front of our office.
The remaining attorneys in our office provide a wide range of general legal advice to condo and HOA associations. For an interested candidate, the range of legal services performed could expand to include other advice required by our client base. We promote education among our client boards and managers, and often provide training to them, either through the management companies, or an industry association called Community Association Institute. We offer the opportunity to enjoy a balance between work and your other life activities, with flexible hours and an average attorney work week of 40 to 45 hours. We are open to discussing pay based on performance for a candidate that is motivated to work more. We offer excellent health benefits, and a combined holiday, vacation, sick days program that provides one day of paid time off for every 10 days worked (resulting in just under 4 weeks of paid time off for full-time employees). We pay for two additional days of time off to complete CLE requirements, and pay for the CLE programs and state licensing. We offer additional benefits including a retirement plan with employer matching, short- and long-term disability, and life insurance policies for employees.
We are filling a position being vacated by an attorney leaving to join one of our competitors. Compensation will be dependent on relevant experience, but the base salary is expected to be between $60,000 and $90,000. It could be higher for a candidate with directly applicable experience. We will hold in confidence any applications. For more information about our law firm, see www.condolaw.net.
