I have a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, a teaching degree in Washington state to teach Family & Consumer Science, and more than ten years of experience working in child care. I have worked with all kinds of children and families, in many contexts-- large childcare centers and small ones, childcare during support groups, coached sports, and I have been a nanny previously.
Currently I work as a substitute teacher for the Edmonds School District, but there is a lack of consistent employment and I miss connecting with students that I see regularly.
I believe in gentle parenting-- compliance through connection. Gentle parenting is about leaning in to children's natural desires and development, giving them appropriate contexts and natural consequences. Gentle parenting is also about believing the best about children! They want to do the right thing, they just need guidance about boundaries and expectations. I believe humor, understanding, and simply listening can be invaluable tools in building trust with small children.
I love to read and do art with children, and get outside. I enjoy trips to the library, the zoo, the aquairum, etc, as well as parks and museums. I keep meticulous written records and love taking and sending photo updates. I'd love to find local Ballard families to connect with, but I am also willing to travel. If you think we could be a good fit, please reach out! I am open to a nanny share situation, and flat daily rate and/or flexible/drop-in care.
