One very handsome, attractive, and friendly Shetland cockerel.
He's from Greenfire Farms and has been vaccinated for Marek's.
Shetlands are a rare landrace breed from remote Scottish islands. They are cold-tolerant and have a sassy look, with a fun pompadour tuft or "tappit" on their head. The hens lay blue-green eggs, like their distant cousins, the Araucanas of South America.
This fellow hatched on 29 Jul 2025 at Greenfire, arrived here the following day via the US Postal Service, and is now nearly 5 months old. He has charcoal-black coloring, a birchen topcoat & saddle, and hints of shimmery green. He has smooth, clean, slate-colored legs and sports a windswept feather mullet. He has a chill personality, gets frequent handling, comes for worm-treats, but gravitates to his ladies. He's just beginning to croak out an adolescent crow.
I typically cull my roosters, but I've spared this guy for his exceptional genes (and sparkling personality!). I'd love to see him placed out to a farm or homestead. He'd be a fine addition for someone interested to grow or diversify their flock. Or happy to be entertained by his chic hairstyle.
