Status: Hourly, Non-Exempt
Hours: typically 6a - 4p
Shifts: Full-Time - Min 4 Shifts, Could be 5, Part-Time - Min 2, Could be 3

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The Flying Apron's Baking and Production team is looking for a seasoned Cake Designer & Pastry Chef, who will also help out on baking and production when not producing cakes, as needed. We have a thriving custom cake and wedding cake business and need more help! You'd be responsible for spinning out retail cakes, custom cake orders - and - if necessary, we'd also have you meet with couples for designing their perfect wedding cake.
We operate six days a week supporting two retail cafes and a wholesale business. Wedding consultations are typically held on Sat/Sun and custom cakes can be due any day of the week. Shifts can start at 6 a.m. and generally conclude around 3 or 4 p.m. - the whole team starts together and leaves together, every day.
MORE IMPORTANTLY, WHO YOU ARE
You are a master craftsmen, someone who takes pride in your work; you seek out efficient methods for stocking and replenishing raw goods so they flow with the needs of recipes and movements of the team. You understand that when the work is done it's time to go home, but that you don't go home until the work is done. Cleanliness is second nature to you; you insist upon sterilizing between shifts, understand the value of a clean and neat work space and dream about new side-work and cleaning projects. You have an eye for design and a knack for communicating with customers and understanding their needs and wants. You do not compromise when designing, sculpting and completing custom orders for clients. You are systematic in your execution of tasks; you thrive off of the hustle and buzz that a rockin' kitchen provides.
WHAT'S REQUIRED 2-years industry experience in baking & proven track record for cake design and decor
SORRY, candidates with no experience will not be considered Weekend availability we have a 7-day production requirement with shifts that are regular and rotating, everyone works at least one weekend day. Coverage needed: Sun/Wed/Fri w/ Tue/Sat as options, depending on need. If part-time, Fri/Wed
WHAT WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE Experience in a chemically challenging environment -- we're gluten-free and plant-based here, this is a completely different ball game, baking-wise Gluten-free or plant-based baking background, especially working with the combination of the two
WHAT THE JOB IS Purpose: cake design, pastry design, some production, prep Opportunity: full-time 4+ shift role available, includes availability on weekends for wedding consultation
Positions: we're considering a full-time and part-time role, depending on candidate mix Shifts & Scheduling: we bake 6-days a week. It's imperative that bakers be prepared for shifts that could be scheduled anytime throughout the week, depending on need - stable shift scheduling is available, we schedule 4-6 weeks out on average. Location: Fremont Neighborhood, Seattle Hours: 36 hours per week if full-time, 18-20 hours if part-time
