The Basics:
- 169K miles
- Body panels, interior, and paint in great shape overall
- Two sets of wheels: one OEM stock with older winter tires (as shown), and another set of 22” black Porsche upgraded wheels (will add picture soon) with tires ready for replacing
The Situation:
- A couple of months ago the car went from running very well, to running rough, and threw a P0344 CEL error code (Intake camshaft sensor, Bank 1). It turns out that as these V8 engines accrue mileage, the timing chain guides can start to break up and affect the timing just enough to throw that code.
- To fix this at a dealer is a pricey proposition because SOP is to pull the engine, and it's very likely not worth it on this car. There is a DIY fix that entails taking off the electric fan, radiator hoses, timing cover, crank pulley, etc. without having to pull the engine. I started down this path and, although it looks very do-able, I just don't have the time to go through with it.
- Rather than put the engine back together without fixing the problem, I’ve decided to sell the car in its current state so that you can see the evidence of the problem (broken guides as shown in one of the pictures) and do as you wish from here.
- Two other main things to consider: the transfer case on this car works and shift well, but there’s a small crack on the drain plug hole and some JB weld is currently stopping the slow leak there.
- The rear bumper has been replaced, because the car was hit in a parking lot low speed incident. You wouldn’t otherwise be able to tell aesthetically, and the rear hatch, etc. works just fine.
If you're handy you could fix this up for $1-2K in parts, a weekend or two worth of work, and have an awesome Cayenne S. Might be a good base for an overland build or so. Could also be a good donor given that the body and interior is in awesome shape overall.
