I have been the proud owner of numerous Land Rovers and Range Rovers over the years, and I maintain meticulous records on my vehicles. See the three-binder photograph of this 1999.5 Land Rover Discovery II Classic.
This D-2 from Pebble Beach, California, and Camano Island, Washington, has no accidents. It's very clean, and only a few look like this; it's very rare. The seven-seater is attractive, and no expense was spared to ensure this vehicle was always in tiptop condition. Current tags through 10.27.2025. Clean title.
We spent approximately $33,000.00 on this classic over the 26 years. Repairs, upgrades, and recent enhancements include:
Adding the roof rack and black netting enhances the vehicle's culture. Additionally, it features a new, unique design element: black paint across the rear side windows, a black pinstripe tape divider, and a blacked-out roof. Running boards were also added for easy access in and out of the vehicle.
The vehicle has a bumper brush guard that holds the 9” Baja Designs floodlights. The front of the roof rack also holds two additional 9” Baja Designs spotlights. The roof rack also has two 6” Warn fog lights, two 6’ side flood lights, and one backup light. Love the usable ladder on the rear door.
My wife has lovingly driven this vehicle for 23 years. Her excellent care is evident in the body's condition, with 100% factory paint throughout and no dents or accidents. The vehicle has also never been misused or taken off-road.
All fluids, including coolant, brake fluid, steering/ace pump with filter, front and rear differentials, transfer case, transmission, and engine oil with filter, were recently replaced and serviced. The front end has also been well-maintained, with work done on the ball joints, tie-rod ends, and bushings. A new rear Tom Woods drive shaft was also serviced. As a result, the vehicle is smooth. Due to a few oil leaks, we recently replaced the valve cover, pan, camshaft, and water pump gaskets, and serviced eight new fuel injectors, which were installed to ensure enhanced gas mileage. The oil pressure switch, battery, oxygen sensor, two engine pulleys, and one idler pulley were replaced. Additionally, a tune-up was in order, so we replaced the spark plugs, wires, air filter, and coil packs. Additionally, we replaced the ACE pump.
The three binders photographed hold the truth about this meticulously managed vehicle's history. Changing the motor oil religiously every three to four thousand miles is, in fact, unusual. Not many owners would ensure every detail was taken care of and provide proof, as we have for this 1999.5 Land Rover Discovery II Classic. I have a Carfax, but the information for vehicles older than 26 years is poor at best. There are dates and times that services take place, but there is no information on what happened. This is a testament to any owner who has all the invoices in date order for all 26 years for your review.
Finally, just recently, the vehicle motor started making a deep knocking sound in cylinder five. I have only run the vehicle for a minute, so only the knock would occur and would not damage anything else. A local mechanic said, “This rod knock is a deeper, heavier knock coming from the lower engine, usually caused by worn bearings between the connecting rods and the crankshaft”. He seems to have a very good understanding of the situation and how to repair it.
Additionally, I do not have an estimate for the 10 different ways this can be repaired. But I am up for the discussion. There may be a few inexpensive ways to review this problem that I have been told about.
My bride and I have reached the end of the road with our D-2. Sad day!
Thank you in advance for your consideration and your time reviewing this asset.
