Vintage Walton Butts Signed Serigraph "Sea Drift" - Frame 13"x16"
Exact age and history uncertain; frame 13"x16", image area 11"x14"; crease in lower right corner
Found at an estate sale, this lovely vintage 11" x 14" framed serigraph print by noted Washington artist Walton Butts (1922-1996) is entitled "Sea Drift". It shows clam diggers on a Northwest ocean beach with driftwood high on the shore. It’s signed by the artist in pencil in the lower right corner (see photos). It's framed under glass in an attractive 13”x16” wood frame. The second photo shows a 12” ruler for scale.
As is unfortunately all too often the case at estate sales, I wasn't able to learn anything about the age or history of this evocative serigraph print, which I’d guess to be 40 to 60 years old. It has an inconspicuous crease in the lower right corner (see photos). Othewise it’s in very good condition and the colors are vibrant (see photos). It has an inconspicuous crease in the lower right corner (see photos).
Two photos taken through a 10X loupe show the artist’s remarkable attention to detail.
Walton Butts (1922-1996) lived in Hoquiam, WA, where he was an artist and art teacher. He’s known for his colorful serigraph prints of Northwest scenes.
