LOTT Clean Water Alliance is a regional wastewater treatment utility serving Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Thurston County. We are proud to be a leader in protecting public health and the environment, and we are seeking Seasonal Maintenance Assistants to help care for and maintain our facilities in support of this important mission
With the help of seasonal grounds maintenance staff, our crew maintains 10 properties across Lacey, Olympia, Tumwater, and Thurston County. We perform a wide variety of tasks, including mowing, pressure washing, cutting wood, blowing leaves, picking up litter, and keeping our vehicles clean. This seasonal role allows you to work outdoors both independently and as part of a team, while working a 10-hour, Monday–Thursday schedule with built-in three-day weekends and the opportunity to learn new skills and gain valuable on-the-job experience.
Position Description: Under direct supervision, perform a variety of grounds keeping, custodial, and general maintenance duties within assigned LOTT Clean Water Alliance (LOTT) facilities in a clean and orderly manner.
Examples of Duties:
The Maintenance Assistant (Grounds) assists the Irrigation and Grounds Specialist in the performance of assigned duties. Duties include, but are not limited to the following:
*Assist in the installation, maintenance, and improvement of turf area, including aeration, thatching, liming, overseeding, and topdressing;
*Clear sidewalks and parking lots of snow, leaves, and debris;
*Operate landscaping equipment such as mowers, tractors, pressure washers, sprayers, leaf-blowers, power trimmers, pruners, chain saws, aerators, thatchers, and other power tools;
*Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems;
*Safely operate a vehicle to and from offsite facilities, inspection locations, or other location necessary to perform assigned work;
*Adhere to LOTT’s Safety Program including updates and modifications to comply with federal and state regulations including, but not limited to, respiratory medical clearance;
*Perform all work in a safe, efficient, and orderly manner;
*Demonstrate regular and reliable attendance; and
*Perform other duties as assigned.
Working conditions will vary depending upon assignment. Groundskeeping staff may be assigned to work throughout all LOTT facilities, such as Satellite Treatment Plants, Recharge Basins, Reclamation Ponds, and Pump Stations. These facilities include hazardous work areas such as: street surfaces, rights-of-way and medians; in ditches, pits, underground vaults and other confined spaces; around heavy equipment. Maintenance Assistants may operate potentially dangerous tools. Some duties may have potential exposure to toxic chemicals, gases, and/or raw sewage. Assignments may be indoors or outdoors, occasionally requiring work in inclement weather at dirty, wet, noisy or cramped work sites. The work involves strenuous manual labor, requiring physical dexterity and mechanical aptitude. The duties of this position require the physical capability and mobility to navigate all types of surfaces and terrain.
Contacts: Grounds Maintenance Assistants have daily contact with other Maintenance staff for the purpose of work coordination. LOTT crews often work in highly visible locations and may be receive questions from interested citizens, which requires responding with tact and patience. If questions cannot be answered on-site, the worker is responsible for referring the citizen to the Maintenance Supervisor or other staff for assistance.
Typical Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
*Basic landscaping, or building maintenance techniques; and
*Basic safety procedures and precautions.
Skill in:
*Operating and maintaining manual tools and small power tools and equipment, such as drills, circular saws.
*Minor concrete work.
Ability to:
*Perform strenuous physical activity for extended periods, occasionally under unfavorable conditions;
*Work with a minimum of direct supervision and follow verbal and written instructions;
*Operate a variety of tools and equipment including, but not limited to: lawn mowers, trimmers, forklifts, man-lifts, floor strippers and buffers, paint sprayers, pressure washers, jackhammers and other various power and hand tools.
*Work in a safe manner at all times by learning and following safe work practices;
*Work as a member of a service-oriented team.
Experience/Education: This is an entry level position.
Pay: $25.37 - 30.86/hour
