For sale is a 1978 Downeaster 32 project boat that I purchased with the intent of fully restoring but plans changed.
I have included photos of when I purchased the boat as well as in its present state sitting on a trailer in my shop. I have gotten to the point in the project where most of the disassembly is complete and ready for the reinstallation and upgrade of the interior. The boat also has a few minor blisters on the bottom I opened to check for liquid and 90% of them were dry.
Here are the high points of the vessel leading to my valuation. The amount I arrived at was due in part to the components cost sold separately used.
1.) The mast has a separate track for a storm sail integral next to the mainsail track. The mast also has steps to the top.
2.) The sails are in fully serviceable condition.
3.) The vessel has a Pro-Furl roller assembly for the jib.
4.) There is a Universal Model 5424 engine with 400 hours on the rebuild. There is an invoice showing the work. I motored to Port Townsend from Oak Harbor and it ran perfectly. The engine will need a new heat exchanger from the 2” to a 3” exchanger. Details on request.
4.) The vessel has a Monitor windvane that was installed but in storage now.
5.) The windlass is a SeaTiger by Simpson Lawrence.
6.) There is an additional water tank from the factory for a total of 90 gallons of water and 70 gallons of fuel. There are no leaks from any of the tanks.
The Princess stove has been removed and will need to be replaced as will the hot water heater.
7.) The boat has no electronics to speak of except a Raymarine tiller pilot used with the Monitor.
8.) The vessel has 5500# of lead at average $1.50/pound.
9.) The cushions are dated but the foam (expensive) can be reused as it is thick and heavy.
10.) The steering is in good shape and works well.
11.) The windows are in need of replacement and have been removed. I still have them as well as vendors for the replacements. The boat is stored in covered storage as is the mast.
The boat is on the trailer as can be seen and used to transport to your location and then returned. I can provide a plan for removing it from the trailer.
Further interior photos of the at present state will be posted soon.
Any questions please feel free to ask……..and thanks for looking.
