The Bellevue Farmers Market is an independent, non-profit organization that operates the premier Eastside seasonal farmers market, offering seasonal fruits and vegetables, cut flowers, fresh meats, and one-of-a-kind artisan food. The market is a fixture in Bellevue, popping up in the parking lot of the Bellevue Presbyterian Church each Thursday from 3pm to 7pm from mid-May to mid-October. All BFM vendors grow and make the products they sell, all from Washington State.

More than just a grocery store-alternative, we operate access programs so that people of all income levels can source quality produce in our community; we educate the next generation of shopper/eater through our kids Power of Produce Club; and the market acts as an incubator for small businesses and single family farms needing to reach customers and test products.

A true community effort, our market is run by a small staff, a volunteer Board, and a team of dedicated seasonal volunteers. The market is funded by individual contributions, corporate sponsorship, and government grants.

We seek a dynamic individual to lead Bellevue Farmers Market through its next period of growth. This role presents an exciting opportunity to shape the development of a unique and community-loved organization; grow professionally; and truly impact the community. It comes with a wide variety of tasks from physical to strategic and a wide variety of situations from city hall to farm fields. The person in this role will be able to develop meaningful relationships with people from many different walks of life and backgrounds and should be able to effectively communicate their passion for farmers markets therein.

Key Responsibilities:
With the assistance of the Market Manager, carry out day-to-day operation of the market and its programs while overseeing the administration of Fresh Bucks and other access programs, Power of Produce (POP) Club, and community partnerships;
Work closely with the Board to carry out leadership and strategic vision, making executive decisions consistent with Board vision and inclusive of BFM staff feedback;
Maintain financial systems in partnership with the Board treasurer, external accountants and programs, and Operations & Market Manager, in terms of both day-to-day and long-term planning;
Develop and execute a consistent and compelling BFM message across platforms and constituents ranging from potential shoppers to sponsors/donors to vendors;
Devise and execute a development plan for inspiring individual gifts and corporate sponsorship;
Provide mentorship and supervision as part of recruiting, training, and retaining permanent and seasonal employees;
Act as the primary representative of BFM, doing so with professionalism, integrity, and friendliness in a variety of formal and informal situations and to a variety of constituents, including vendors, volunteers, shoppers, local government, existing and potential donors and sponsors, other farmers markets, media, the general public;
Advocate for BFM and its programs;
Enforce BFM policies and ensure compliance with King County Health Department, City of Bellevue, WSFMA, and other governing bodies.

Preferred Qualifications:
● 3+ years of leadership experience required;
● BA/BS or equivalent life experience preferred;
● Demonstrated ability to be a compassionate, inspiring, and transparent leader who
seeks and fosters growth on personal and organizational levels;
● Organized and efficient approach to working, able to independently structure daily
and annual workload for maximum effectiveness;
● Strong verbal and written communication skills along with technical proficiency;
● Comfortable with Microso Office or Google Docs and Sheets;
● Confidence and competence in fiscal operations, including maintaining accountability
and driving fundraising efforts;
● Ability to resolve conflicts quickly and satisfactorily;
● Outstanding customer service ethic to offer high quality experience to vendors,
sponsors, volunteers, and other community partners;
● Demonstrated ability to maintain high standards under pressure and changing
situations.

Job Perks & Details:
● Salary starts at $40,000 to $45,000 with review after 6 months and opportunities for
growth based upon fundraising success. Additional benefits include healthcare
stipend, paid time off, flexible scheduling, professional development, and opportunity
to earn quarterly bonuses.
● 30 hours per week average. This is a year-around position, but hours and demand are
flexible, varying by season (full-time during market season, for example) and adjusting
to the person taking this role.
● Must attend weekly (Thursday) market during season (May-October) including
assistance with set up and tear down in all types of weather. Occasional
evening/weekend events.
● Must be able to lift and carry 30 lbs. as well as stand, lift, kneel, reach, and bend for
long durations.
● Must be able to successfully pass background check, have valid drivers license and
insurance, and have access to reliable transportation.
● Must have access to mobile phone.
● Must have or be willing to obtain a King County Health Department Food Handlers
Permit.
