"The Snowmaiden" from the Russian village Fedoskino / Signed on top / "Made in Russia" F 1994 written on bottom in gold. It is in PERFECT condition ~ glossy black outside and shiny red inside. The gold is stunning, and the artwork has a radiant, glowing, shimmering appearance which is primarily found in traditional Russian lacquer art from the village Fedoskino. Russian Fedoskino Lacquer Boxes are known for their "glow" achieved by using thinly diluted, transparent oil-based paints over a foundation of silver leaf, gold leaf, or mother-of-pearl inlay. This method creates a luminous, 3D effect, particularly in scenes of fairy tales or winter landscapes, which this is!
The bottom of the lacquer box is level and sits flush on the surface of a table. It has been kept in its original box lined with cotton and stored in a drawer in a smoke-free and pet-free home. All original certificates are in excellent condition. Made in 1994.
