I have not been driving it much in the last few years, and this car deserves to be driven.
She has 114 thousand miles now, on a car that is 36 years old.
I bought the car without getting any records or receipts. I do not recommend anyone buying a car without service records and receipts for parts and work done. My love at first sight blinded me to the practicality of learning what had been done and what had not.
Consequently, I have spent a lot of money replacing parts of unknown age and condition.
A short list here:
New brakes
Replace timing chain and water pump
Replace clutch
Replace various seals
Replace several front suspension components
Upgrade headlights
Lowered front and rear suspension 3/4”
New adjustable shocks
4 wheel balanced alignment
New hood and rear deck lifter struts
I have every part purchase and service record receipt for the time I have owned the car. These total in excess of $18,500. This gives you a comprehensive list of things that you DON’T have to worry about.
This car is great fun to drive. On a winding road you can take full advantage of the perfect 50/50 weight distribution. It handles like a true sports car, because that is exactly what it is. You can carry 4 people, but the two in the rear will have to scrunch a little. The rear seat folds flat (see photos ) and has a suprising amount of space. We used it for several long road trips and always had room for our stuff and for picking up treasures along the way.
It gets good mileage overall and is ready for the grand tour or a day at the track. I competed in the Pacific Northwest Porsche club auto cross a number of times , and the car and I frequently won our class.
The car had air conditioning but a previous owner had deleted it. We always opened the windows and the roof vent and were quite comfortable. I do have some replacement AC parts that come with the car , I just never got around to installing them.
All in all this is a splendid vintage Front engine Porsche that can hold its own as a spirited road car with years of quality life and miles ahead.
