FIRE DEPT NEEDS YOU! Ham Operators needed ! (GRAHM)

Hello from Dan.
I have created a group that supports fire dept communications in times of desasters. ( in this case HIRL "High Incidencs Responce Load" )
We man the ham radios in our fire stations to provide inter-station and truck communications. You may also be asked to communicate with fire comm.
It takes your time, energy, and is fun. you get to be part of the fire dept, you get an ID to get into the fire stations, and you get to help.
If you don't have a ham license, we can get that for you too.
So if you live close to any Fire Dist 15 fire stations,
WE NEED YOU!..
Please contact Dan KB7UXE 253-843-1707 or reply to this ad for more info.
( who knows you may even get to ride around in a fire truck !)

We meet once a week and we drill with fire dept real time.
.
meeting at 7pm mondays with
net on 146.540 simplex mondays at 7:30pm

Located in British Columbia’s Great Bear
Rainforest and overlooking the Pacific, the Koeye (pronounced
“kway”) have been for millennia cherished by the Heiltsuk First
Nation people for its healing and sustenance and have been a home
for 'Qaikas Nan' - the Great Grizzly Bear. Nestled at the mouth of
Koeye River is the Koeye Lodge - a non-profit society that is
committed to supporting Heiltsuk youth, culture and environment.
This summer they are opening a traditional ceremonial Bighouse which
is to support the culture and science camps organized for kids and
youth as well as their healing programs.
International group of volunteers will assist the Heiltsuk First Nation with restoration
project and the completion of the traditional ceremonial Bighouse.
They will be also involved in some work with the youth culture and
science camps, healing courses and non-profit ecotourism which will
 also be on site.

Volunteers will help landscaping the
Bighouse area, including bushing, moving sand and rock, stream
clean-up, rock fire pit work and building. Among the other planned
activities are clearing and building trails, some garden preparation
for medicine and demonstration gardens and collecting plants,
assisting the set up of obstacle course for team building.
Volunteers may also take part in some plant propagation and pruning
for trails as part of a 1000-year restoration plan for a small
 logged area.
Around 30 first nation kids at the age of 10-15, some of whom with
disabilities, attend the culture and science camps at Koeye Lodge
each week. Volunteers will be involved in organizing and attending
some activities with those kids. Each Friday night, a feast is held
around the big camp fire, filled with traditional songs, dances and
ceremonies. Kids present what they’ve learned of their cultural
history and the elderly tell stories about the past.
The official opening of the Bighouse will be celebrated on July 29.
Volunteers in the second project will take part in the preparation

We are a group of mostly writers (screen writers, novelists, essayists, short story writers, memoirists) who gather twice a month (1st and 3rd Wednesday evenings) at the Twin Rivers prison in Monroe, WA to discuss Joseph Campbell's The Hero's Journey with inmates who are interested in telling their stories using the HJ as a format. We discuss topics like what makes a hero whether in or out of prison, how to deal with the shapeshifters in our lives, and how to overcome the victim archetype that is at work in all of us. Plus many more.

At the present time we are a discussion group, but we will soon branch out with an emphasis on literary pursuits that incorporate aspects of the Hero's Journey.

Right now we have seven volunteers and a group of about eight inmates. We could use about three more volunteers. If you're looking for a life-changing experience, email me. I've been volunteering at the Washington State Reformatory for 12 years now, and other than raising five kids as a single parent, it has been the single most lifechanging thing I've ever done. If you're a writer, you'll receive feedback on your own writing as well as be given the opportunity to provide feedback on others' work. If you're just someone wanting to know more about how to incorporate the hero archetype rather than the victim archetype into your life, we'd love to have you join us. Have a great day!

It is not that uncommon to hear the phrase save the rainforest, but this means more than just stopping the bulldozers. The clear cutting of unspoiled rainforest needs to stop but this is a symptom; not the actual problem. Perhaps individuals, corporations, and governments wouldn’t be so quick to exhaust their natural resources if they saw any other option. You can help by volunteering to teach environmental education programs, promoting conservation efforts, developing ecotourism opportunities, or promoting the sustainable use of biological resources.

Multifaith Works unites compassionate volunteers with people who are isolated and alone. Currently, over 450 Multifaith Works volunteers provide nonjudgmental listening and practical assistance to people living with HIV/AIDS or MS, inmates in local prisons and jails, people in recovery from chemical addiction, and family members grieving the loss of a loved one.
<blank>
Through the Shanti program, volunteers are trained and matched one-to-one to listen and offer emotional support without giving opinions and advice. Through the CareTeam program, volunteers work in groups to assist with transportation, plan gatherings, and build a safety net of trust and care. By building these relationships, volunteers present connection and inclusion to people who are otherwise cut off from community.

Kundapur is a town situated on the west coast of
Karnataka near the beach, and very close to the Western Ghats (a
mountain ridge). The Western Ghats is India's prime zone for
bio-diversity, known for its number of animal and plant species in this
region. A Marine Turtle protection project has been started here in
co-operation with the Forest Department of the State of Karnataka. Over
a 60-kilometer stretch of beach, surveys have been conducted and
protection of the turtle nests has taken place until the hatching of the
eggs. In 2005, more than 500 baby turtles reached the ocean safely
thanks to the effort of international volunteers. The workcamps will
also focus on spreading awareness to the general public and to the
schools about the importance of turtles in the bio-diversity.

It's a wonderful place for anyone interested in working with students of diverse cultures. The SBOC helps students in becoming accustomed to the North American school system and in developing literacy in English before they enter mainstream schools.

We need tutors and general volunteers in Reading, Literacy, English, Math, Science, Computer, and Art classes; to do one-on-one tutoring with students; in advisory periods (when students can receive extra help in their respective native languages); and with after-school activities such as homework help time, science at Discovery Park, conversation practice time, choir, photo club, drama, West African drumming, hip-hop class, and a Oaxacan band. There are also occasional opportunities to serve as a chaperone for various field trips throughout the year. Classes are 7:45 a.m. - 2:15 p.m.; after school programs 2:15 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

I work with International Student Exchange, a non-profit organization which places High School students from abroad, into American high schools for a period of a semester, or a complete school year.
I am looking for families who would like to share in this amazing experience of learning and culture sharing. The students will be placed in Redmond High School so I am looking for families who reside in and around that area for convinience.
Students are profficient in English and will have their own insurance and spending money. Host families will provide the meals and a bed for the student, they may share a room with a sibling of same sex and appropriate age. Some host families already have children, but it doesn not matter if you do not.
If you are interested in becoming a volunteer host family, or if someone you know might be intersted, please call Lara at (206) 446-3075 or email me at the link above.

Volunteer Coordinator(s) (South Lake Union)

We are a small non-profit private foundation that offers funding to over 830+ secondary schools throughout Washington State. Our funding provides for things such as coats, shoes, ASB cards, eye glasses, medical needs, college access and more. For more details or “success stories”, please visit our website at www.haasfoundation.org.

In order to fund as many schools as possible, most of our efforts are coordinated through the efforts of our volunteers. We are very dedicated to our volunteer corps and are seeking a volunteer "Volunteer Coordinator" or volunteer "Volunteer Co-Coordinators”. We are seeking either one person 8 to 10 hours a week or two people 4 to 5 hours a week each. Some weeks will be less and some may be more. The reason we are posting this together is because we realized in evaluating the position that there really are two types or functions to this role which can easily be divided up.

The Volunteer Coordinator(s) will do the following:

RECRUIT: responsible for updating United Way, Idealist, and Volunteer Match website postings as well as other “seasonal” sites such as intern sites, etc. Work with the Executive Director on how to feature volunteer opportunities on our website as well as local college sites.

TRACK intake of each volunteer assuring that resume and cover letter, criminal history background, a minimum of 2 reference checks and interview notes are complete on each volunteer by the interview team/supervisor.

CREATE a volunteer personnel folder on each volunteer and create an e-newsletter that helps volunteers stay connected. Collect and track volunteer hours.

ORGANIZE quarterly recognition events for volunteers or recruit other volunteers to team up to create some fun. Also play a key role in planning the annual volunteer recognition event which takes place in October.

Strategy: about 50% of this can be done from home. 50% is needed in our office for tasks such as the documentation on the volunteer, relationship building, setting up socials, etc. A computer, desk and phone are available and once volunteers have been through our background checks, we provide access to our facility.

Traits we are seeking is someone who is extremely trustworthy and confidential, perhaps someone who wants to go into human resource management as a field or someone or two friends who like working with people, can handle communicating primarily through e-mail, and be fairly independent for supervision , once trained. If availability allows we would like the coordinators to attend our once a month offsite meetings (leadership team for planning).

In the spirit of reducing change and transitions, we are seeking a minimum of a one year commitment.

Interested parties should send a cover letter and resumé or complete our volunteer application located on our website, www.haasfoundation.org. If a team is applying, both people should complete the application or send in their resume'. A joint cover letter is fine.

Please e-mail any inquiries to volunteers@haasfoundation.org.

Sounds great right...well making this program available takes the work of many local community volunteers like me! (and maybe you?) As volunteers we help coordinate training and service learning, we help organize fundraisers like our annual Citrus Sale and we support the daily administration of running a completely volunteer organization!

I'm working with a student group at University of Washington on a project to introduce incoming students to all the resources available in their community and ideas on how to live more sustainably (about 5000 new residential students per year!)- but we need help making it happen!

We want to build a website which supports a 3 month "green" challenge to users - more sustainable living = points. Users track sustainable actions that they do (compost, bike/walk/carpool/bus, plant a tree, etc) and get points in their account. Users elect to donate their points to a nonprofit organization working for environmental conservation or justice....all the money generated through grants, advertising and sponsorship gets divvied up at the end based on the number of points that users generated for "their" nonprofit.

It's a little difficult to convey the details of how the site would work, but it's Facebook meets Bike-to-Work Challenge. See the attached PDF for a better description of the site we are envisioning.

We are looking for someone to donate the time (or some time) to build the website. This project is about challenging the myth that people can't live on the planet sustainably - please get in touch if you are interested in helping make this project happen!
