The response to this event is truly overwhelming. I don't know why that it surprised me so much, that so many people would want to be a part of this event. I mean, the under recognized, under respected, and under exposed talent is the whole reason i was inspired to do this event. Nevertheless, it's amazing. This event is going to take place, looking for a late August/early September event. I won't say the venue yet, since the contract is not quite signed. I know I said 25-30 artists originally, but just due to time constraints, and in the interested of excitement to the event, we are now going to narrow it down to 15-20 artists. BUT we are adding DJ's, and a break dance battle. So keep sending me your emails, if you want to be a part of this amazing event, and when it comes time to decide those lucky few artists on this show, it will be a hard decision, but it will make the event that much better. Steve said "The short sales and bank owned properties have brought down the prices across the board and private owners have to compete to sell their home. A lot of times, it is much better to buy a home from them, because they are much more likely to close and you have way more control and still get a great deal in most cases."

Fans going nuts for couple's roasted beans

Are they nuts?

Nope.

Are they soy nuggets?

Yup.

And they are selling like hotcakes.

When Phillip and Mavis Erikson of Monroe discovered there was a need for healthy, organic snacks, they came up with a way to make organic soy nuts, roasting the soy beans.

They started small, selling at farmers markets. To their surprise and relief, the product was a hit.

Mavis Erikson was born in 1955 in Evanston, Wyo. She graduated from Cal Poly San Louis Obispo with a degree in psychology.

"I put myself through college via the United States Coast Guard Reserve," she said. "I was stationed in Moral Bay, Calif., assigned to a search and rescue team."

Her heart was always about marketing. When she was a little girl, she melted down all her crayons to make candles and sold them door to door.

"Once I poured all my Mom's perfumes into single containers, redistributed them into different bottles, and sold this awful smelling mess to my neighbors," Erikson said. "Needless to say, my mom was not very happy."

She sold Shaklee products when she was 12 years old.

Erikson moved to Washington in 1978 and worked as a real estate agent while attending beauty school. Her first beauty salon was at Bothell Landing, opened in 1985, called First Impressions.

She sold three salons in 2002 and incorporated Truson Organics in 2004.

They are still learning the food business, Erikson said.

"We learn something new every day," she said. "One of our goals is to be the first solar-powered food facility in Monroe."

Customer Erika Andahl, who lives in Mill Creek, said she likes the crunch of the chili and lime flavor.

"I have a bag in my car, at my desk, on my kitchen counter; I'm telling you I can't get enough," Andahl said. "When our friends come over for dinner or to watch the Seahawks, I have a bowl of soy nuts out, (no more greasy chips) and they go great with beer."

Philip Erikson is from Washington. He worked as a telecommunications manager for 10 years and in retail and warehouse management for 14 years.

"I sold soy nuts from the back of our family Suburban at four farmers markets for the first two years in the business," he said. "I found this product benefited many people, especially vegans, dieters and those with midlife health issues."

He hires and trains Monroe High School students as employees.

"I teach them the many aspects of running an entrepreneurial business," Philip Erikson said. "Several of our employees now desire to open their own small businesses in the future."

The couple buy raw soy beans from the Midwest and dry-roast them until they get a nutlike shape and crunch.

"We roast every little organic bean by hand in our Monroe plant," they said. "We have a secret way we roast our nuts so they are not hard and dried out. Then we add our organic spices per our secret recipes. Next we package the soy nuts with loving care by hand and ship them off to their destinations."

When Mavis Erikson was in high school, her senior project was about natural, homemade cosmetics. She may create an organic beauty line.

She said she loves the book called "Mr. and Mrs. Stupid Start a Business."

Duran Duran, meet Avery Dillon (Redmond WA, July 5th)

Hello,

I am writing on behalf of my 18 year old son, Avery Dillon Walter. I humbly ask for your help on his behalf. You see, I made him a promise, one I intend to do everything I can to keep. Please let me explain�.

In June of last year, Avery was sent home from Job Corps in Astoria, Oregon due to an eye infection he couldn�t shake. In July he was diagnosed with a rare combination of two forms of bone cancer. He has been undergoing chemo therapy at Seattle Children�s Hospital for almost a year. Avery is a kind and gentle-hearted, brilliant, young man, who�s courage both amazes and humbles me. He has endured the pokes, prods, infusions, and bone marrow biopsies with a quiet stoicism that I cannot understand sometimes. Avery is currently in remission though still taking daily meds and monthly chemo infusions until his medical team is sure that they have sufficiently pummeled the cancer cells into the ground. Unfortunately as so many survivors and family know, they have to hit his cells just as hard. This has caused his immune system to be inadequate to handle most public group situations. I love him dearly, and am so scared of what can happen, that it makes my promise to him that much more important.

We have 5 tickets in two different places to the Duran Duran concert at Marymoore Park on July 5th. Avery�s younger brother, Anakin Duran Holman , his Father, and I will all be there. Anakin was born to the song �Do You Believe in Shame?�, in November of 1998. Duran Duran has always been there for us because my now ex-husband loved the band so much. No matter where we were, or what was going on in our tumultuous lives, they have been within earshot of my family. The Boys in the band have seen us through the most incredible happiness, and the worst sadness life can throw at you. Their words let us know we are not alone, that someone else out there knows how we feel. They make is dance for joy!!! I really can�t put the words together to truly explain what an impact that Duran Duran has had on our lives.

I promised Avery that I would arrange for him to be backstage and away from the main crowd so that going to see the band that he loves so much won�t put him at risk for his life. He would give up his super gaming computer to meet the Boys. Well, maybe, but I can�t express what this would mean for him. I realize that as a parent, I made a seemingly impossible promise, but right now, we need Avery to believe in the impossible, as it may just save his life. The rest of us would be content to sit in our seats, enjoying Duran Duran, knowing that Avery was gifted a lifelong dream. Thank you in advance for anything you may be able to do on his behalf. Local Family Needs Help (Kitsap)

We are a young family of 3 in need of some help.

Two years ago, I found out that I was pregnant. My fianc� and I were not financially prepared for this life changing event. After we had our daughter in June 2007, Brad turned to drugs to control his feelings of stress. Ever since then, we have been battling to overcome his addiction.

Our beautiful baby girl deserves better than the life she is being forced to live. She is young enough that if we get help now, she will never know the struggles of her toddlerhood.

That is why we are swallowing our pride and asking for help. We are hoping to have Brad admitted to South Coast Recovery by the 1st of August. Their fee for a 30 day program is $11,800 and a plane ticket is $200.

I know we all are financially strapped in our struggling economy at this point but our family's fight is seemingly never ending. We have both lost our jobs and are falling into a hopeless and discouraging place.

A group of about 4-6 guys are trying to plan a trip down to the Seattle area and are looking for local suggestions on areas we should consider that can provide the following:
1. A lake or beach area
2. A bit of a town where you can do some shoppoing and go out for dinner/drinks
3. Areas where you can rent a cottage/condo/townhouse for 3 or 4 nights
4. An area that has or is close to some bars that has a semblance of a nightlife.

My car was hit by a earl;y 90's or late 80's RED ford pickup. It was red and may be 2 toned with white or silver, or just have a white or sivler stripe. This happened in Auburn, near 23rd st. Friday evening. The driver stopped for a moment and upon seeing people come out of their housed, sped off. My car was totaled. I was involved in a collision yesterday. Approximately 6:30pm on Redmond Way in front of Whole Foods. We were stopped at a red light and out of nowhere the lady hit the gas bumped onto my bumper and into my rear hatch door on my minivan. I drive a 2001 Silver Nissan Quest and she was in a Gold/Beige Minivan/Crossover. I thought it might be a Mazda MPV but not sure. The police pulled us both over but she ended up in Whole foods and the officer led me to Les Schwab. Unfortunately she fled the scene before either of us could get her information. Originally I thought it was only the bumper damage and I wasn't too worried about it but while I was talking to the officer I went to open my hatch to get water and I couldn't open it, then we saw the damage to the hatch door.
