Summary
Job Summary:
The person in this position primary responsibility for servicing and inspecting all bus engines and engine components and assists in all phases of maintenance.
Terms of Employment:
This is an 8-hour per day, 260 days per year position. The hours are approximately 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm, Monday through Friday with a 30-minute unpaid lunch. The base wage for this position is $22.71 per hour.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent. Five years recent, successful work experience in heavy equipment in a bus or truck repair shop, performing journeyman-level work on both gas and diesel powered equipment with manual and automatic transmissions or successful completion of trade school diesel mechanics course with three years of recent working experience at a journeyman’s level on both gas and diesel equipment with manual and automatic transmissions.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Thorough knowledge of how to use and interpret repair manuals, shop manuals, electrical schematic and manufacturer’s specification manuals.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Supervise other staff while engaging in work under his or her direction.
Ability to maintain accurate records.
Be in good health, physically capable of proficiently performing all tasks normal to mechanical work.
Duties and Responsibilities:
This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary.
Overhaul and repair gas and diesel engines and accessories.
Overhaul and repair front end, rear end and transmissions.
Tune-up procedures for gas and diesel engines.
Trouble shooting to include electrical and mechanical.
Welding – acetylene and arc.
Body repair includes interior/exterior, flooring and spray-painting.
Overhaul/repair of brake system, running gear, power train and suspension system.
Write necessary reports; compile statistical reports and other clerical functions as required.
Apply WISHA Safety Standards to all aspects of work and report potential hazards to immediate supervisor.
Perform other tasks as assigned.
Licenses/Special Requirements:
Valid Washington State Driver’s License (Class A or B) with a clean driving record, and evidence of insurability; ASE Diesel-Gas Certification, Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance. Must own a complete set of automobile mechanic’s tools.
Reporting Relationships:
Reports to Shop Foreman.
