Compensation: Starting salary range is: $2,832-$3,328/mo, DOQ. This position is eligible for full benefits.

JOB SUMMARY
This position provides routine to moderately difficult administrative support duties to the Director, Port Security and Chief of Security in administration and support of the APMT contract that provides security services to the terminal. Special projects for the department may also be assigned. Work performed is often sensitive and of a confidential nature. This is a limited duration position expected to last up to the life of the contract which ends on October 31, 2013. Continuation of this position is dependent upon renewal of the contract.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES:
•Provides administrative support to the Chief of Security, Terminal Security Officer (TSO) Supervisors and the Director, Port Security. This support includes, but is not limited to, , typing letters, reports and other correspondence, coordinating PowerPoint presentations and data collection, answering phones and other support duties as assigned.
•Schedules meetings and maintain calendar for the supervisors and staff who support the APMT security service agreement utilizing Outlook and other Microsoft tools.
•Assists in the processing of payroll and timesheets for the TSOs.
•Open, review and distribute incoming mail; handle routine office duties such as photocopying, filing and miscellaneous projects and assistance.
•Assist staff in conducting research and special studies in the security area, using web searches.
•Maintain database and training management systems in support of contract security services.
•Using Microsoft Office and other software applications, drafts letters, memos, presentations and other special assignments as requested.
•Assists in the administration of the Port’s Access Control processes. This includes the processing of requests and the issuing of appropriate documentation including identification badges.
•Performs miscellaneous administrative assignments related to travel, registrations, budget, training and incident command, etc.
•Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:
Minimum education requirement is an Associates Degree in Business, Office Technology or applicable discipline.

EXPERIENCE & OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Previous job experience required should include a minimum of two (2) years of experience as an administrative support professional or office assistant requiring a high degree of confidentiality. Experience must include the use of office equipment, typing and tracking data. Must also have experience with the Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis in Outlook, Word and Excel. Experience with data entry and database management is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & OTHER WORK CHARACTERISTICS
Must possess professional knowledge of telephone techniques and etiquette and be skilled in using tact, patience and courtesy when dealing with staff, the public and in confidential matters. Must have the ability to establish workload priorities and balance diverse projects and have the flexibility and ability to change priorities if and when appropriate. Must possess professional verbal, written, analytical and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Must also possess ability to understand departmental operations and procedures.

Individual must possess the ability to align with the vision, goals, and constructive culture desired at the Port of Tacoma; demonstrate enthusiasm, vitality and creativity; demonstrate a strong customer service attitude and treat all individuals with courtesy, dignity and respect and actively support and clearly communicate the goals, objectives and strategies of his/her individual department, Lines of Business and the Port.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Most duties and responsibilities are performed in an office atmosphere and are performed sitting, with the majority of the day spent operating a personal computer and telephone. Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds occasionally.
