About me, I’m 26 and played volleyball in high school, and just now got back into playing in city leagues/tournaments (co-ed and women’s) for the past three years. I played middle hitter/blocker in high school and rotate between outside hitter/MB/MH in my leagues. I am 5’11”, can’t set worth crap, but have a consistent serve and back row defense.

I am familiar with 5-1 and 6-2 rotations, also. I’m competitive but mostly just like to have fun, and don’t get mad if my teammate(s) screw up!

I played in the Seaside tournament (co-ed doubles), so I have some doubles experience but not much.

The clicking of the hub and the wind is all you hear. Night has fallen on Tacoma and it’s the best time to take a ride through the burbs. Out fitted with a nice bike and a little bit of nerve I’d like to tell you about my trek.
I left Pt. D at about 10:00. You can still see just a little bit of sun on the horizon, Twilight in the most surreal sense of the word. Warm too, just about 70f. Traffic was light for a Monday evening. Most people staying at home dealing with their person case of the Mondays. And to give it that azure sensation, the moon 2/3rds full. It looks as if she’s winking from just behind a turn.
Uphill for the first mile and half, good warm up. I’m making good time. Thanks to the light traffic I could stay on the road and that makes for an easy up hill. I don’t have to pay attention to cars getting out of driveways and usually they will stop for me.
At 21st I head east for the next 2 miles. Open 2 lanes of traffic and great hills. The street lights play tricks with my eyes. What looks like a fast downhill becomes a lazy coast. You can smell the air off the ocean. And I pedal on.
Continuing on my southward trek I decide to take the bike lanes on Union. It’s a peaceful spot in the north end. Low tree limbs brush the top of my helmet. My lights illuminate street signs 5 blocks in both directions. Every light turns green just as I reach it.
Union and Sixth I patiently wait for the light to change. At this point in the trek Tacoma changes from quaint two story picket fence houses to bars on the windows. No bike lanes and shitty sidewalk. I decide that I’m traveling fast enough and traffic is desolate….Lets ride.
I make great time from then on. It’s all downhill till you reach 16. I also like to sprint at this point. You don’t want to look slow when you got a nice bike with bright lights.
At Target I like to bust a quick left and get onto Pine. I like this part because I get up to about 30 mph pretty quick. It’s kinda steep so I like to swing wide and jump into the movie parking lot. It has a shallow curve and I can run it pretty with a steep lean. And just as I going through, the theater doors bust open with a crowd of dissatisfied movie goers just in time to see me buzz the lot at about 35mph on a bicycle. A fast right fallowed by a quick left and hammer on the brakes because you’re going into traffic. The most mind numbing fact of that scenario is you can’t hit the brakes any time until you finish up the s-curve. Checking for traffic I bounce onto Pine under the bridge. At this point the hill is fast enough that I can keep up with cars. Ahead South Tacoma way looms in the primary colors. Also there is a very steep and difficult uphill that absolutely sucks monkey choad. Then the blinding advertising sign of a failing plastics company that offers CNC work. I laugh every time. A smooth slope ahead and through 38th, silent except the clicking of the hub and the wind. 3more miles and I’m home.
