General Position Summary: The Medical Billing/Collections Specialist provides timely follow up on appeals, denied and/or short paid medical claims on patient accounts. Manages assigned accounts and maintains days A/R outstanding. Submits secondary or tertiary insurance claims.
Job Responsibilities:
• Follow up on billing statements to payers and customers in a timely manner.
• Prepare and submit secondary billing on a daily basis, manual and/or electronic submission as applicable
• Review each claim for accuracy, ensuring submission of a clean claim to insurance carriers
• Process secondary and/or tertiary insurance claims for co-payments, deductibles, referrals and/or allocation changes
• Proactively follow up on denials, claim-response letters and unpaid accounts
• Review bad debt for write offs or for forwarding to outside collection agency
• Review all claims for contractual write offs, allocation changes and collection of any remaining balances
• Maintain acceptable aging parameters on all accounts
• Research outstanding balances and take steps necessary to collect/resolve payment issues.
Job Qualifications:
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent
Experience:
Required: 6 months experience with insurance billing or DME customer service experience
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of insurance carriers and reimbursement guidelines, high level of accuracy and attention to detail, understand and practice rules regarding patient confidentiality, HIPAA compliance, and safety. Adhere to all state and federal standards regarding confidentiality and patient rights, uphold the highest level of professionalism at all times, including personal appearance, ability to multi-task, manage time efficiently, prioritize duties and responsibilities, and be able to shift priorities to meet deadlines, represent the company image and reputation at the highest level, excellent knowledge of the equipment the company provides, its care and maintenance requirements.
