The Engineering Technician position assists in a wide variety of technical office functions by exhibiting a thorough understanding and application of the methods, procedures, functions, and operations associated with the Engineering Services Department. The incumbent in the position assists staff Civil Engineers in preparation of engineering designs, plans, and contract documents, construction “as-builts”, and engineering standards. In addition, the Engineering Technician develops and updates City maps, maintains engineering records designs, prepares technical illustrations including charts, diagrams, sketches, layout designs, and graphic illustrations, provides to the public engineering-related information, reviews plans, assists Civil Engineers with construction surveys, construction contract administration and investigates engineering related issues.
