Zumobi is building the next generation hybrid of mobile/web applications, for the iPhone, Android, Palm Pre and other next-generation mobile devices. Our applications power mobile experiences for consumer brands, entertainment, and sports organizations.
We are looking for an experienced Ruby/Rails developer with strong SQL skills who can work under minimal supervision to create the web services and embedded web applications that drive Zumobi’s mobile applications. We particularly value candidates who have used other server-side frameworks for web development, and who can draw on that experience in their work with Rails.
Job Summary and Responsibilities
As a member of an agile development team, you’ll estimate, design and implement applications and web services in consultation with other software teams and product designers. We need someone who can adhere to and champion best practices for software engineering (e.g. re-use, testing, source code control...). The right developer for this position will enjoy the challenge of improving our development efficiency and quality, in a dynamic (but not chaotic) start-up environment.
With many smaller projects we have many deadlines, but also great opportunities to learn and improve on how we work as we go. This position requires a high level of time management, personal prioritization, and the ability to work on projects either independently or with a team.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated experience building Ruby on Rails and/or Ruby applications
• Demonstrated experience with SQL (mapping active record to existing databases, writing SQL queries, etc.)
• Solid experience with at least one other server-side framework for web development
• Knowledge of client-side web development technologies (HTML/CSS/JavaScript/Ajax).
• At least 2 years of industry experience, preferably working at a consumer oriented web/mobile company.
• A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline such as computer science or information systems is highly desired. Other degrees are fine too given you’ve got some extremely relevant experience.
