Media Relations Specialist
KCTS 9 is the largest public television station in the Pacific Northwest, reaching over 2 million viewers weekly in Washington and British Columbia. Located in the heart of Seattle at Seattle Center, KCTS 9 improves the quality of life in the communities we serve by providing meaningful programming on air, online and in the community that informs, involves and inspires.
KCTS 9 seeks a full-time Media Relations Specialist to manage media and public relations through outreach, research and writing, and to assist in marketing campaigns and initiatives that enable KCTS 9 to reach more people, build a great organization and make a positive impact in the community. Reporting to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, the Media Relations Specialist participates in creating strategies for communicating brand identity through print, online, and other marketing materials, and assists in creating advertising /marketing campaigns. The Media Relations Specialist serves as the contact for and maintains contact information for external media; identifies and pursues public relations opportunities in the local media; writes, edits and distributes press releases and other materials as needed; and develops relationships with external media partners. This position carries primary responsibility for researching, writing, and editing materials for targeted audiences, such as news articles, Web/multimedia content, style guides, fact sheets, brochures, print/e-mail newsletter articles, correspondence, and annual reports.

A Bachelors degree in Communication, Journalism, English, or a related field; 3 years in PR or communications leadership; experience producing articles and press releases; excellent proofreading skills; experience working with senior management, executives, and Board of Directors; working knowledge of written and electronic journalism standards and practices; solid computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office software, experience with Drupal (or other CMS), and e-mail list management systems; and working knowledge of digital photography and image transfer and management required. Candidates must be available to work varied hours including some nights and weekends as needed.
