this is the perfect project for something actually willing to spend the time to fix it. i purchased it both with the explanation and under the assumption that it works perfectly. and it does work pretty well, with two issues:
1. the screen will ONLY display 1280x800. it will not scale any other resolution, even to show the bios screen or windows booting up. it worked when i got it, but i assumed this was a driver issue and installed different video drivers.. now it only works with an external display. this is obviously a software issue.
2. the install of windows on it has a virus or some crap, which might be related. i popped in another hdd and used it for hours with an external monitor running intense applications(photoshop cs4, ableton live 8) with absolutely no issues. however, using the hard drive it was supplied with it has random screen corruption/freezing issues.

#2 makes me believe it is NOT a bad motherboard or anything serious like that, just some bizarre software issue. reflash the bios? reinstall windows? maybe you'll have a like-new awesome widescreen laptop that is incredibly well made. i love dell d series laptops, they're indestructible. i just don't have time to deal with something that doesn't work out of the box right now.

oh yea and NO CHARGER. i didn't get it with one, and the only one i have had its cord shredded by a dog. they're about $5 at re-pc though.

it's a power mac g5/1.8ghz/512mb. this one.

i bought it intending to make a fake mac pro with it using osx86 compatible parts, or maybe fix it and use it as it is.. but i realized pretty recently that wasn't something i was ever going to actually do. basically what happened to it as far as i can tell is it was either bumped/lightly dropped, or simply the weight of the heatsink damaged a standoff in the case. one of the threaded standoffs on the bottom of the cpu heatsink had it's little threaded screw bit snap off, and then caused a hairline fracture in the motherboard. so the motherboard is bad, but everything else(including the cpu module, if you really wanted it) is good as far as i know. it is COMPLETE besides the hard drive. superdrive and everything. the case+parts alone is probably worth more than my asking price, it even has ram in it.

it almost starts up and then gives error lights on the motherboard. if you really wanted to you could get this going again, or live my super cheap mac pro dream! get it before it's gone, i know someone at least wants it for the case+superdrive and fans.
