Job Title: Technical Software Localization Manager

Department: Production

Reports to: Technical Services Director

SUMMARY:

The Technical Manager is responsible for all facets of localization including but not limited to owning the technical direction and vision for client accounts . The Technical manager acts as technical design authority and assumes leadership for all technical issues.
The Technical manager defines & enforces agreed processes for requirements gathering, change control and approvals with internal & external stake-holders and spearheads technical innovation and continuous improvement on accounts, working closely with the Program Director. The Technical Manager also supports the International Sales & Marketing Team in the Pre-Sales Process

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILIITIES:

1. Provides technical leadership on assigned client accounts, and thought leadership within a team of engineers.
2. Drives the maintenance, update and development of the software localization environments, processes and tools that enable us to deliver the most efficient solution possible.
3. Assists business development group in pre-sales support, strategy development and bid management.
4. Technology watch: analysis of software localization trends, and how they can be leveraged to improve Welocalize’s competitive position, with focus on both Welocalize’s internal toolset and technologies, and those available on the market.
5. Possesses a strong quality focus in all aspects of the work.
6. Maintains a clear understanding of the technical services requirements of customers (internal and external).
7. Builds relationships with appropriate client representatives based on partnership and thought leadership.
8. Works directly with clients on processes/issues/planning and attends pre and post project meetings.
9. Constantly evaluates and analyses processes for improvement opportunities, presenting innovative updates to the internal team and to the client on a regular basis.
10. Approachable – is approachable, and willing to share ideas / information / advice with project stakeholders, peers & management team.
11. Participates in workshops, presentations and other information dissemination exercises.
12. Owns and delivers special interest projects as agreed.
13. Represents Welocalize within industry forums and conferences.
14. Develops, drives and manages both internal and client-facing engineering forums to share information, process, tools, etc.
15. Creates process documentation and oversees/audits documentation prepared by other engineering team members.
16. In conjunction with the China production centre, plans and manages the technical resourcing requirements for projects.
17. Supports Project Managers / Directors through the project life cycle, with contributions to initiatives, load balancing, etc.
18. Provides status reporting (written and verbal) on project tasks and initiatives based on assigned client accounts.
19. Acts as an escalation point for assigned client project related engineering issues
20. Takes ownership for mentoring production team members in all aspects of the production process and tools, whether located onshore or offshore.
21. Coordinates the development of client production based training material in line with company strategy.
22. Communicates technical knowledge and resolutions to translators, vendors, and other members of the project team.
23. Manages strategic technical direction of assigned client accounts, including Translation Memory maintenance, GMS migration and MT approach.
24. Oversees and implements policy with regard to version control systems, defect tracking and archival procedures.
25. Troubleshoots and resolves problems that arise in engineering process.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience Requirements:

1. College degree in related area and/or related experience in language or software localization.
2. 10+ years of experience in localization
3. Must have demonstrated mastery in three of the following:
o .Net o Trados
o Java o Catalyst
o Perl o Macromedia Flash
o Visual C++ o VBA

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements:

1. Computer experience working with multiple Operating Systems: all Windows platforms, UNIX, and Mac.
2. Familiarity with international software development, testing, and user acceptance
3. Strong interpersonal skills: teamwork, able to learn new skills quickly, excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. A good understanding of the overall localization business (outside of engineering) and the company strategy.
5. Sound knowledge of the software development process and cycle
6. Strong knowledge of the Office System applications
7. Technical orientation
8. Good organization, prioritization and time management skills
9. Process focus and the ability to perform risk analysis on existing processes to continuously improve.
10. Understanding of programming/scripting languages and concepts
11. Able to function in a multi-task environment

15. Able to clearly communicate detailed information both verbally and in a well written document
16. Able to understand and troubleshoot software development build environments

20. Skill with translation memory tools such as Trados, Catalyst, etc.
21. Understanding of mark up languages such as HTML and XML
22. Able to do setup tasks such as ghosting drives
23. Flexibility, and ability and drive to learn and deploy new technologies
