The Senior Database Engineer job is a position within the Self-Service product development team which is focused on the companys line of bill analytics and e-billing products. The team is responsible for developing, enhancing and supporting new and existing Globys applications for sale to telecommunication carriers around the world.
The successful candidate must have SQL Server expert level ability regarding database development and have extensive experience working with very large databases and writing complex stored procedures. While the position is a developer role, the successful candidate will also consult with the Globys production DBAs and must have solid experience or knowledge with SQL Server DBA functions.
Responsibilities:
Schema and database design (physical and logical) and coding of new database related products and features
Use of T-SQL to code stored procedures, functions and triggers
Tuning SQL queries and table indexes
Support of ETL processes and development of new ETL processes
Maintenance of existing products and features
Write and execute test plans for unit, integration, and stress tests. Validates test results upon test execution and determines corrective action as required from the test results
Manage large sized projects
Participates in the determination of project staff requirements and project task schedule, coordinates project activities within the team.
Actively work with QA team and produce technical documentation required by QA.
Perform code reviews
Act as an internal expert on database technology and provide guidance and input on technology decisions
Qualifications:
Bachelors Degree or equivalent experience. Preferred degree: computer science.
10+ years experience with the software development lifecycle
8+ years of SQL Server experience with recent experience in SQL Server 2008
Experience building database driven web applications
Extensive experience writing stored procedures, reading query plans, tuning indexes and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks.
A detailed understanding of RDBMS theory including database design and index optimization
Data modeling and design experience
Advanced knowledge of SQL query execution fundamentals and query optimization principles.
Ability to work well independently and as a member of a team
The ability to develop an understanding of an existing complex telecommunication billing application
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to communicate effectively with peers, staff and management across multiple locations
Strong decision making and communication skills
Desirable Skills:
Experience coding in C#.
Oracle 10g or 11g database experience
Data warehouse experience is a strong plus
