Quick Summary

Chromed LLC is hiring a full time Lead Digital Matte Painter for an unannounced media and video gaming project to join our Seattle office.

Details

Interested in working for a startup that wants to push cinema and gaming in a bold new direction?

At Chromed LLC, we're blending a TV-like cinematic experience with an accessible and interactive format, published regularly over the internet. TV for video games.

And we need your help.

Chromed is looking for a skilled Lead Digital Matte Painter to help us bring our vision to life.

This is a lead level position, with a mixture of creative and management responsibilities. We're looking for a talented artist that can meet our current art needs, and a capable manager that can help us grow to accommodate the ambitious trajectory of our project.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work on the bleeding edge of media - defining the visual direction of an ambitious media project, dabbling in game design, and forging a brand new creative property - a serious modern-day noir tale with a dark and surreal twist.

You'll be working hand-in-hand with our creative staff, taking our growing collection of production notes and scripts and turning them into something visual and engaging - a mixture of 2D stills intermixed with processed animation generated from live video recording.

This is an important project for our company, and you'd be an important part of it. We're a small startup trying to do something huge and daunting - we're forging a new media, and you'll have a strong hand in its direction and growth.

Qualifications

For this opening, an ideal candidate:

Is skilled at creating compelling backdrops and visuals for a predominantly 2D production. We need photo-realistic-but-surreal architectural and environmental content ranging from decayed urban landscapes to dark-and-twisted fantasy.

Thinks cinematically. Your work will breathe life into a very visual production, taking on the appearance and conventions of film and television.

Able to take a lead role in visualize compelling and creative imagery. You'll be instrumental in taking our growing collection of production notes and scripts and turning them into something visual and engaging.

Has strong digital art skills. Particularly photo processing and image manipulation - a substantial portion of our art needs revolve around visuals constructed from digitally manipulated real-world photographs.

Is technology savvy. You'll have a hand in equipment and software purchasing decisions, and help guide the development of internally developed software to aide our content creation pipeline.

Thrives in a collaborative environment. You'll be working alongside a growing creative staff, passionate about creating something great.

Is excited about working in the chaotic, guerilla development environment of an ambitious media startup. We're a small team that's trying to do something entirely too big. And we like it that way.

Is self-motivated and able to work without direct supervision.

Has great communication and people skills.

Is able to take an active role in evaluating and bringing on-board quality hires and resources.

Comfortable managing subordinates. This includes motivating and supervising reports, assigning tasks, tracking schedules, and evaluating output.

We expect all these traits in an ideal candidate. With that in mind, we also have a number of additional qualities we'd like to see in our future Lead Digital Matte Painter. We are willing to consider qualified candidates who don't meet this extended set of criteria, but will look more favorably on ones that meets some or even all of the elements on this extend list:

Has strong and flexible art and graphic design skills. We'd be particularly happy to find a candidate whose qualifications are substantial enough that they can step up to fill our project's vacant Art Director position. While we're actively recruiting separately to fill that post, we see enough value and overlap between the Lead Digital Matte Painter and Art Director responsibilities for this project that we'd look very favorably on a candidate who can capably assume both roles and provide us a unified visual direction. Our Art Director requirements overlap many of the qualifications we're looking for in a Lead Digital Matte Painter, but executed over a broader set of mediums (in-product art assets, print and online promotional materials, concept art, user interfaces, etc).

Has a solid film and video production skill set - solid enough to act as our primary cinematographer for envisioning and handling the production of our live action video assets. Our digital backdrops and video production needs are intimately meshed parts of our visual production, and we see significant value in unifying them under one person for a stronger, more cohesive vision.

Has a solid photography skill set, with a particular interest in urban and architectural subject matter. An appreciation for the decayed visual aesthetic captured by Urban Exploration photography is particularly appropriate.

Is connected to a diverse art and urban photography community. An art director who can help us tap a large pool of creative talent (both locally in the Seattle area and abroad) would significantly simplify our production logistics.

Is familiar with video gaming, possibly even a self-professed "gamer". An interest in graphical adventure games (ex: Monkey Island, King's Quest, Grim Fandango, etc) is particularly relevant.

Has relevant industry experience, preferably in a lead or higher position with management responsibilities.

To be clear - while we're not opposed to hiring a capable Lead Digital Matte Painter with a strong 3D skill set, we're looking for someone to generate primarily 2D art assets.

Applying

We're looking to fill a local, full time position. Salary is negotiable, depending on experience and qualifications.

Email your cover letter, targeted portfolio, and resume to jobs@chromed.com. If there are specific pieces in your portfolio you'd like to highlight, be sure to mention them in your cover letter.

While we're focusing on recruiting local talent, we're willing to consider qualified out-of-area candidates as long as they're legally eligible to work in the US. That said, we are recruiting to fill a local position in our Seattle, WA office.

We apologize in advance if we're unable to respond to you personally regarding your submissions. Based on the enthusiastic response we've gotten in the past, we expect quite a few responses. That said, we are committed to reviewing and evaluating every applicant.

Talented & Fun Photoshop Designer Wanted for Children's Travel Books (Seattle Metro Area)

Cooper’s Pack Publishing is looking for a unique and talented graphic designer or two (Photoshop-required) in the Seattle-metro area who would be interested in joining our team (students encouraged to respond).

We create and publish educational children’s travel guides based on stuffed animals traveling around the world, city-by-city. As our book series expands, we need to secure a long-term graphic designer/partner who can help produce new releases. To date, we’ve published New York and London, with Paris coming out soon. We have six additional books in the queue with the content and story lines ready to go. This is a part-time/monthly arrangement and can be completed offsite (but within the Seattle area). You can expect 1-2 meetings a month at your preferred beverage establishment, library, or lunch spot (on us). Please see our website, www.cooperspack.com for samples of our work and the book concept.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:

The optimal candidate needs to have domain-level knowledge of Adobe Photoshop including working with layers, cutting out subjects/characters and placing them within real-world pictures, image manipulation, and an understanding of print requirements. This is a detail-oriented project and may also require coloring photos for seasonal differences and accentuating the actual characters (pose, smile, arm movements, etc.). In addition, the ideal person would also have the ability to take still-image digital photos of our characters to capture “poses” that will be placed in the book. NOTE: I can work with you taking pictures of the characters if needed. You should have a sense of humor and silliness. After all, we are talking about stuffed animals here. We also encourage editorial commentary to make our books the best possible, including verbiage, humor, and wit.

All content will be reviewed/delivered on our website and via email. There are no travel costs you will have to worry about. Each book has a story line to follow, along with sketches for each page, assigned pictures to use as backgrounds, and PSD page templates.

NOTE: Because of the design requirements, we will only review submittals for talent located within the Seattle-metro area (no out of town, out of this world submissions please…from experience, it simply won’t work). You need to live in the Seattle area.

COMPENSATION:

Because we are looking for a long-term partner, we would like to keep our initial hourly cost down to a minimum, with preferences for bidding X-amount per 2-page spread (or similar, with X-amount of change requests/additions included). In exchange for a reasonable hourly rate, we can also offer a percentage-ownership in the book or series once we find the right fit along with recognition in the books, website, and world. If you are looking for $50 an hour or anything near that, you probably don’t want to work for us. If you have any other compensation ideas, please submit accordingly. In the end, we want everyone to win and for you to feel like these books are yours too…

NOTE: All work will be produced “for-hire” and we will own the content. You will be required to sign a non-disclosure agreement to secure the safety of our business operations and marketing strategies.

NEXT STEPS:

Please submit your resume along with answering the following questions in an email to cooperspack@yahoo.com :

1.	Please describe why you would like to work with stuffed animals traveling around the world? The idea here is that we need to find someone fun, interesting, and with the talent to bring our characters to life…

2.	What are your hourly (or per-page) needs?

3.	Please submit a sample graphic or two (PDF, JPEG, or web link) showing similar work you have completed (with the idea of cutting out and pasting a subject in a real world picture that otherwise wasn’t there…it needs to look real).

CONCLUSION:

Anyone who has seen our books simply loves them. Words often heard include “brilliant”, “clever”, “educational”, and “fun”. Basically our book series looks like it will go the distance but we need some help to get them to the next level (there are only so many hours in the day). We are truly looking for someone who sees how fun this is, who can provide their skills and passion for a reasonable cost (knowing that they could secure long-term ownership), and who know how to communicate via email and in person. For those who feel like a good fit, let’s meet at your convenience and go through the project and variables. Thank you for your consideration and be well…

PRINT PRODUCER - PUBLICIS IN THE WEST

Who we are. We’re 200 entrepreneurs. We’ve built a billion-dollar business – the city’s biggest communications company by far – here in the cultural capital of the Pacific Northwest. We love Seattle. And its spirit. A ton of us have moved from New York, San Francisco, Chicago and Los Angeles. By day, we work on T-Mobile, by far our largest client. As well as HomeAway, Les Schwab, TAP Project and KEXP – a gem of a radio station. At night, we’ve all got diverse interests that make us fun the next morning. Our office has breathtaking views of Puget Sound. Decent coffee (sacrilege, we know). And a keg to celebrate the local microbreweries on Fridays.

We make cool stuff. We generate interactive, experiential, and experimental ideas. We’re all about conversing with the consumer, not advertising to them. We are conversation changers. What’s new is old, we concentrate on what’s next.

We produce over 25 TV spots a year for T-Mobile alone. They want great work. Push us hard. They’re also incredibly innovative.

The opportunity. We’re surrounded by the Googles, Nintendos, Microsofts, Amazons, Starbucks and the rivers, lakes and mountains. In short, we’re naturally drawn to the Next Big Thing.

The job. We are seeking an experienced Print Producer whose duties will include traditional print media (newspaper/magazine and OOH) as well as basic art buying responsibilities for a freelance assignment starting Tuesday afternoon for 2-4 weeks. This is also an opportunity to be utilized in the future in additional freelance needs.

Who you are.
•	Have a minimum of 3 years of ad agency print production experience.
•	Have extreme organizational skills.
•	Have an artistic and passionate energy, leading to 100% effort on every assignment.
•	Must be able to handle changes with a positive attitude.
•	Must have openness to variety of projects and assignments.
•	Able to prioritize projects under pressure.
•	Committed to a team-oriented work environment.
•	Able to troubleshoot problems and find solutions.
•	Able to work a flexible schedule as needed.
•	Able to work overtime during heavy workloads (may require additional hours and/or days).

Please send cover letter with hourly pay rate requirement and resume to employment-Seattle@publicis-usa.com. Be sure to include Print Producer in subject line.

OUR STUDIO:
We believe in working to live not living to work. We have a fantastic facility with an atmosphere conducive towards communication and independence. We are a liberal studio that offers the best working environment to build great games. Our culture is based on integrity and openness, we do not micromanage. We believe that if we hire you, you’re experienced enough to deliver. Our studio produces and manages all content, therefore, we want each individual to have ownership in what we are creating. We are an ego-free studio looking for great talent to compliment our existing staff.

Requirements:
•	3+ years of demonstrable experience in C/C++
•	Experience with low-level 3D programming
•	Highly motivated, self starter, creative thinker
•	Expertise in current graphics algorithms, data structures, hardware and mathematics
•	Reliably able to create good quality, performance-minded code
•	Experienced with shader programming
•	Knowledge of current graphics programming APIs

Pluses:
•	Experience programming video device drivers
•	Ability to work with artists and designers
•	Experienced with Maya and 3DStudioMax
•	Experience with multi-threaded systems

If you feel you meet our requirements, send your resume and code samples in C/C++ that demonstrate your ability to engineer practical solutions to difficult problems. We prefer to see code that highlights relevant experience to this position. We generally look for at least 2500 lines of code in at least two different subject areas.

We encourage you to send code that will show your best work, and would suggest avoiding linked-list implementations, matrix transformations, lightweight DirectX "wrappers", and the like, as those samples tend not to give a clear idea of your abilities. If you have collaborated with other programmers on the code, please give us a clear indication regarding which parts you've written. Finally, please do not submit executables, make-files or data files.

Code samples will be held in the strictest confidence and used solely for the purpose of evaluating your abilities.
