We are a small local company that has national exposure with our product line. Join our creative and energetic art team, creating fine art illustrations. Fun office space, 14-foot ceilings, water views, in the heart of Belltown; working with a rapidly-growing, professional company.

If you feel that you are an extremely talented artist, ready to illustrate using a Tablet with CS3 Photoshop, and work full-time, read on:

We are looking for a talented illustration artist to join our team, focusing on digital art in 2-D to end up on our product line! We want the best of the best – are you our next artist? The position is available ASAP, however, we can be flexible if you need to provide a current employer notice. We are seeking a fulltime artist to join our art team.

This position is paid salary and under contract. We are in the office from 9:00am to 5:30pm. You will never work evenings or weekends. Holidays, Vacation, Sick Days, Birthdays, and other perks.

CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS:

Team Player. You must work well with the artists and staff on the team and maintain a positive, respectful demeanor toward colleagues, managers and clients at all times. We want a head–on-straight, friendly, fun person to join our close-knit community.

Follow Direction. You will be given art direction – we need someone that will follow clients’ instructions, and trust the art director’s input to maximize success.

Dependable. You must be on time, awake, and ready for each day. You MUST be responsible; this position isn’t for someone who lacks professionalism. In a small office, trust is essential. We must be able to trust you will keep yourself accountable for staying on task and motivated to work hard. The owners/sales managers travel quite a bit and must be able to trust you are doing your job and upholding the company’s integrity when they are away from the office.

Organized: You use layers in Photoshop effectively, keep your desk clean, and follow the art schedule.

Detail Oriented. Your artwork is clean and artifacts don’t exist in your work. Your art must be accurate. You know how to research and you do it effectively.

Speed. You are capable of doing a layout, sketches, and artwork quickly when a client needs us to meet a certain timetable.

Business-oriented. Not only do you have artistic abilities, but you understand the nature of business and working with clients. We are looking for someone who is beyond an artist – you need to have business acumen too. When doing designs, you are thinking about ‘how well it will sell’.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Work with in-house sales staff to create artwork to be put onto our product line that satisfies customer requirements and advances the company’s reputation in the industry. • Manage and complete multiple high-priority projects with strong attention to detail and timeliness. • Manage your production schedule and use the master schedule board to inform the office of work in progress.

• Maintain an archive of completed projects. • Assist the sales staff in the development of collateral marketing materials for web and print media. One artist on staff right now handles CS3 InDesign, but to have some help designing our promotional information a few hours per month.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

2 years previous experience using a digital drawing tablet. This is a MUST. Do not apply if you don’t meet this requirement.

• Demonstrate mastery of the Adobe Creative Suite Photoshop. We use CS3.

• Proficiency in Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat in PC/Windows environment would be a plus. • Demonstrate exceptional skill in manual illustration. You will provide daily concept sketches in pencil/ink prior to CS3 illustrations for critique. We want you to be able to freehand draw figures, landscapes, etc. We are interested in an artist, not someone who can trace.

• Demonstrate traditional art skills in different mediums such as oil, acrylic, gauche, and pastels. While you won’t be working in these mediums in this position, the skill set is similar to digital illustration: understanding of colors, blending, mixing, and theory. • Demonstrate ability to create excellent layout and composition and have an eye for design. We add text to designs (so you need to know how to choose certain fonts for certain designs) and border treatments, logos, etc.

Expert design sense and the ability to communicate your vision verbally and in print. • Demonstrate understanding of the custom product design process (working with a creative director, sales manager, client, and other artists within a single project). This means you will bring your own style to the table, but have the ability to remain consistent with the company’s design aesthetic and direction while creating what the client wants.

• Excellent typography skills and recognition of quality fonts and ability to use them effectively to portray emotion within our designs.

• You must be deadline driven, a team player with a positive, easy-to-work-with attitude and enjoy a small company environment. We are an energetic office in lively Belltown (downtown Seattle), run by a younger husband-and-wife team, with an office dog.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• All work will be done at company offices on company equipment; no telecommuting is available.

• Creativity-driven environment, working with a team of 2 other full-time artists.

• You will have a PC with CS3, tablet, desk, and widescreen monitor. 14 foot ceilings, large windows, 4 blocks from the Space Needle, open environment office with a $150k digital press to run any comps.

TO APPLY FOR THIS POSITION: All applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, and portfolio in Adobe Acrobat format up to 10 megabytes via e-mail to jobs@lanternpress.com with the words “Artist Position – FIRST NAME, LAST NAME”. Candidates who are invited to interview may be asked to bring additional samples of completed work. Apply by email. Do not visit our location. We will decide on 4 applicants for personal interviews. 2 of those applicants will be asked to do a design in-house under art director and art team supervision. We will make our hiring decision at that time. EXAMPLES OF OUR WORK:

Attached are examples of our artwork and the caliber we require you to meet or exceed. Each of these designs are done in about a day. The most involved designs take no longer than 2 days.
