Guitar Lessons (Phinney / Greenwood, North Seattle)

Hello, my name is Scott Myers. I have been playing the guitar for 15 years, since I was 11. I am almost completely self-taught, and was never satisfied with the few lessons I did receive. Learning an instrument should be interesting and enjoyable, not boring or frustrating. And it should never be forced.

My specialty is the acoustic guitar but I have taught the electric guitar as well. I have been teaching the guitar for over 2 years and I love it! I taylor my lessons to each student, and I work hard to find out how you learn and what is the best way to teach you what you want to learn. It is a very casual and low-pressure environment.

I can teach:

the basics,
chords,
finger-picking,
folk songs,
pop songs,
rock songs,
blues,
soloing,
beginning classical,
arranging,
reading music and tab,
music theory,
songwriting,
jamming,
perfomance,
alternate tunings
--even singing!

You can bring me songs that you want learn and I can figure out how to play them and show you how to play them, or figure out what it will take to get you to the level where you can play them.

I especially encourage beginners to contact me. Beginning is the hardest part, and a bad teacher can really ruin it for you. I am patient and I love the music, and I'll work hard to help you get over those initial hurdles. I won't start you off with boring scales or exercises, but instead will to get you playing interesting and fun things right away, in the first few lessons. I won't test you or make you perform or anything like that, but will let you learn in a natural way, and help you to do so.

I can teach intermediate musicians who want to learn new things, are stuck or bored and want to get more into the guitar and music in general.

$40 per lesson (usally 1 hour or a little longer). I'm located near near the Woodland Park Zoo in North Seattle.

Available Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. so call me and we can find a time that works for both of us. My phone number is (206) 501-9620. I look forward to hearing from you.

Seeking a Mechanics of Materials tutor for this upcoming weekend. (Seattle & Eastside)

Hello,

I have found many tutors on here for physics, but I don't see many tutoring ads for engineering fundamentals. I have an exam next week in my Mechanics of Materials class (also goes by the name Strength of Materials). I am seeking a tutor who is familiar with this material and excels in this area. My exam will be covering Stress-Strain Diagrams, Hooke's Law for Uniaxial Loading, Failure Theory (Maximum Distortion Energy Theory, Maximum Shearing Stress Theory, Maximum Normal Stress Theory, Failure Envelopes), Generalized Hooke's Law for Multiaxial Loading, Strain Rosettes, Torsion, and Angle of Twist. I am looking for a two or three hour session this weekend and am willing to pay up to $25/hour.

I am looking particularly for someone who is a physics major or an engineering major or someone who is an undergraduate student who excelled in this course. I am using the textbook Mechanics of Materials by RC Hibbeler. I have a pretty strong understanding of a lot of the topics. I have read the sections in the textbook and worked some random problems here and there, but I would like to meet up with someone who can answer some questions I have. If this is something you think you would be interested in, please send me an e-mail message as soon as you can. I would really like to do this on either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.

My e-mail address is: mw4650@gmail.com

TESTIMONIALS

"Our tutor from Adam Wes Academics is truly a miracle worker. My daughter is a sophomore in a private school with a very rigorous curriculum. She has always struggled in math and had anxiety every time she had a test. After the first quarter this year I received a letter from her teacher that she was failing math. I was very fortunate to find Adam Wes Academics and after speaking with a representative on the phone I could tell they had a real concern for teaching students such as my daughter. They emphasized a passion for tutoring math and an outlook that learning and tutoring math could be fun. My daughter was having her final exam in Algebra 2 the following day and worked with the tutor for two hours. When he left he assured me that my daughter would get an A on the exam. Of course, I was very skeptical, especially having had other tutors work with her in the past and never receiving the desired results. That night I could see that she was feeling more confident and sure enough she came home the following day so excited that she did get an A on the test. Our tutor from Adam Wes Academics knows how to connect with students. He has the ability to turn something that my daughter thought was impossible into making her a success. Words cannot express my appreciation to him and Adam Wes Academics for not only teaching her in a way she could understand, but also giving her the tools she needed to continue to succeed. He really cared about her and even called the following day to speak to her. I honestly don't know how he accomplished so much with my daughter in so little time except that he has a very special gift."
"I hired a tutor through Adam Wes Academics to perform a nearly impossible task: to teach math to my son, then in college, who had not completed a math class since the seventh grade due to severe illness. Starting in August, our tutor had to bring my son to a point where he could test into his grade level (then a sophomore in college) which would allow him to take and succeed in the required math classes to qualify for transfer to a major four-year university in California: all in 6 months. My son did test well enough to take both Pre-Calculus and Statistics in the Spring semester and I am proud to say that with continued help from our tutor he earned a B and an A in those classes. I cannot recommend Adam Wes Academics highly enough."
"Our Adam Wes Academics tutor was phenomenal. He is one of the few people who has the natural gift of teaching. He is intelligent, clear, and engaging. He not only inspires me to learn, but he makes each session enjoyable and exciting. If asked, I would strongly suggest that he pursue a career in education. But what is most impressive, is that my tutor took me from a person who had not opened a math book in almost eight years to someone who was so successful on the placement exam that I have placed into the highest math level offered. I have not only reached my goals, I have surpassed them. And this is all thanks to Adam Wes Academics."
"My Adam Wes Academics tutor was a truly excellent tutor. His eager and charismatic personality always kept me engaged even if the material was boring or difficult. He made sure I knew how to do a problem in multiple ways, including how to check my work on a calculator which proved to be incredibly useful. During the final 6 weeks of school, my grade raised from a C+ to an A- in calculus which would have never been possible without his help. He is easily the best tutor I have ever had, and because of him I actually started enjoying math class."
Mackenzie, senior calculus student at Marymount High School

"We are so lucky to have found Adam Wes Academics. With our tutor's committed, creative and engaging personality, Mitchell's grades raised from a D to a B+ in physics and from a C to an A in pre-calculus in just six weeks. He was truly a great tutor for my son."

Linda S., mother of a senior at Milken Community High School
"I can't even begin to describe how amazing Adam Wes Academics is. My tutor was such a blessing in my life. I had taken college algebra twice in school and was never able to make a passing grade. On my third try, I decided to get a tutor. I went through three private tutors before finding Adam Wes Academics. I wasted hundreds of dollars on tutors who didn't have a clue what they were doing! Feeling hopeless, I decided to give it one last try. It was then that I found Adam Wes Academics. In the end, my tutor was able to take me from an F to a C+ in just two weeks. His ability to explain, what seemed to me like a foreign language, was incredible! He was able to recognize both my weaknesses and my strengths. He never allowed me to feel stupid; instead he encouraged me throughout the entire process. His easy-going personality made the whole process seem like I was meeting with an old friend, not a tutor. Words can't explain the gratitude I feel for him. Adam Wes Academics is amazing!"
"My Adam Wes Academics tutor was an excellent tutor! By continually analyzing my understanding, he developed a method to best teach me. Every session he inspired me to learn more and kept me excited about the whole process. He also has an unending supply of math tricks; they are so helpful. I don't know what I would do without him."
"I cannot emphasize enough how exceptional Adam Wes Academics is. I am in my junior year of college and have dreaded math my entire educational career. I have been working with my Adam Wes Academics tutor for four months in preparation to take the math course required for college graduation. When I began working with him I literally was relearning fractions and basic algebra. I was planning to test into college algebra, the lowest level course to fulfill the requirement I need for my degree, but after my wonderful experience with my tutor I will be testing into calculus! He has a remarkable style that makes even the most difficult of problems simple and fun to understand. His enthusiasm and natural gift for teaching has turned me from an easily frustrated, math-loathing student into one who truly enjoys and looks forward to progressing in mathematics. Trust me, you will be doing yourself a huge favor by choosing to work with Adam Wes Academics. Your brain and patience will thank you."
Dear Adam Wes Academics Tutor,

Aidan received his AP test results yesterday and scored a [perfect] 5! We are so delighted with his performance and the savvy way you worked with him this past school year. We found your personable style, consistent encouragement and strategic thinking to be a tremendous asset in building Aidan's skills, confidence and ultimately his abilities in Calculus. Working in the house on our schedule was invaluable for our busy lives too. The whole family would highly recommend you as a tutor to anyone who needed help in math. Aidan has a natural gift in this arena but is often scattered and unwilling to do his work. We saw a real shift in his approach, attitude and performance; and so appreciated the firm but friendly way you interacted with him. It's not easy to work with teens and you have a real knack! Richard and I thank you as does Aidan - know that you helped our son in a big way and helped launch him into a deeper exploration of math. We will keep you posted on his progress at Evergreen.

Warm regards
Kathleen (Mother of Venice H.S. AP Calculus Student)
"I found out about Adam Wes Academics because my little sister was using him as a geometry tutor. When I began struggling in AP Calculus my mom suggested I use Adam Wes Academics as well. I had no idea it was possible to tutor math all the way from geometry to calculus but in my first session with my tutor I officially decided that he was not only the best tutor I had ever had, but also the smartest person I had ever met. Every single question I asked him he knew the answer to and every single problem I showed him he could solve. Since I began using Adam Wes Academics, my test scores have gone up significantly. My tutor was so helpful that I also recommended Adam Wes Academics to my best friend who has also seen a significant increase in her test results. My tutor had an extreme knowledge of all levels of math and was genuinely interested in helping everyone who he tutors not only improve their grades but also truly understand the material. I would highly recommend Adam Wes Academics to anyone who needs help with any level of math."

I have a Bachelor's in English and am skilled at explaining how languages work, and I have good accents in Spanish, French, and other languages (Turkish, Korean). I can provide references for language-exchanges and tutoring I have done.

Here's how it works:

In English, I will check your experience level and tutor you accordingly with books, CDs, and music.

In Spanish, French, or another language, I can tutor you with CDs, music, and culture lessons. Full disclosure: I don't have a degree in a foreign language, but I am quick to pick them up and can help you to stay on track while learning the language. I've always been told by teachers and natural speakers that I have a good accent in these languages.

We will have fun learning the languages! Lessons are $15/hour. Get in touch if you'd like to hear more.
Not only did C make it through the math year successfully, but he told us regularly how much his time with Jeff helped him.
Musikgarten - Early Childhood Music Class (0-5 yr old)

Musikgarten Programs awaken and develop children’s inborn joy and talent for making music. Since early childhood is a crucial time for brain development, it is the optimal time to start this music journey.

Here are some of the highlights of this music gift that lasts a lifetime.

The Plan – Only Musikgarten offers a comprehensive and sequential plan for music development of children from birth to age nine. Each of our six classes stands on its own and fits the development needs for children. Class time is educational, fun and purposeful.

The Teachers – Musikgarten teachers are highly trained professionals with classroom and field experiences in early childhood music education and child development.

The Curriculum – Musikgarten programs are based on children’s development needs as they grow. Favorite songs, stories, and dances are revisited throughout. Children will master and enjoy these activities with successful learning experiences.

Family Involvement - Families will receive CDs, family activity guides and instruments to continue their bonding and the fun of music with their children at home.
Description:

Learn where all the letters are in an hour or less! KEYTIME is the most efficient typing methods available. It quickly teaches students, ages 10 through adult, to keyboard without looking.

Learning to touch-type usually takes 5 to 6 weeks using a conventional teaching method. The KEYTIME Skillbuilder Learning Kit teaches you the whole keyboard, without looking, in about one hour (ages 10 and up). After you learn our touch-typing method, the average word per minute increase (including accuracy) is one word per hour of practice.

KEYTIME is fun and easy.

KEYTIME was designed for beginning typing, but everyone can benefit from its superior teaching method! What makes KEYTIME unique? KEYTIME teaches ergonomic touch-typing. KEYTIME's instruction works because it builds on what you already know. Instruction is NOT based on rote memorization or the Qwerty keyboard but on basic language skills. This enables students to learn key locations in an easy, logical way that is linked to established memory patterns. KEYTIME's method is multi-modal which makes it fun and easy.

Songwriting/Piano/Guitar/Composition/Theory lessons (Seattle)

Greetings,

I am currently a sophomore studying music at Cornish College of the Arts. I would like to start offering private music lessons as a way of supplementing my personal income, as well as gaining the knowledge and experience that comes from teaching others an artform that I am passionate about.
This would be my first foray into giving lessons, so naturally my rates will be low for you. This would be a learning experience for us both:)

As far as my qualifications, I can say that I have been playing guitar for twenty years and piano for even longer. I have a firm grasp of intermediate level music theory and am always continuing to enlarge my knowledge of the composition process. I am currently majoring in classical composition at this time. I have written at least twenty songs and believe that I have found my own personal voice in the 'indie acoustic rock' vein. If you would like to hear some rough tracks of these songs, please visit my MySpace page at: www.myspace.com/mrsgrayband.

As far as the subjects I believe I would teach well, those would be:
-Songwriting
-Beginner piano
-Beginner guitar
-Beginner/Intermediate theory
-Basic improvisation
-Composition

I listed songwriting first because, given my personal strengths, it would be ideal for me to teach songwriting while using all the other tools (such as theory and instrumental training) to support that process.

I also feel like I would have a good personality to teach music. I am a very laidback, understanding, and attentive person, and I would love for my skills to benefit other people. I know how difficult it can be, physically and emotionally, to reach your musical goals. It requires a lot of support and guidance from other people. I would like to be that support as much as possible with my students.

At this time, I am setting my fee at $20/hour. This is comparatively low but if anyone feels this is still outside of their budget and still feels interested, please contact me. I would like to know why you are interested and what your specific circumstances are.

I live in Wallingford where we could have our lessons, or I could potentially come to you by bike or bus. There is also the possibility of me securing a practice space in Capitol Hill, depending on the time of week.

Anywho, I'm looking forward to hearing from people. Thanks for reading and best wishes.

-Michael

This class will be individually tailored, depending upon your specific needs. Whether you're a student in need of additional tutoring, or a happy traveler in search of warmer climes & another hemisphere in which to ski, I'm here to discuss, teach, and share the socio-culturally diverse world that is Spanish. Degrees in Spanish and Anthropology, an Emphasis in Linguistics, and Certification in Teaching English as a Second Language have given me both the educational breadth and depth to smoothly adapt to one-on-one, new media, and classroom learning environments. As both educator and student, I have worked and lived in Catalunya, Pais Basco, Castilla-Leon, and throughout the Americas. (Kindly forgive the lack of diacritical markers.) In Beverly Hills and Pacific Palisades, I tutored elite High School seniors in AP Spanish Literature, and we had a glorious time exploring the Spanish Golden Age, with the allegory of La Mancha's windmills-as-giants, and elements of feminist, personification, and apostrophe of the Baroque-era nun, Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. In addition, I have private corporate clients from Asia with whom I work on accent reduction and business communications. Further, I was The Villa Academy's lead Spanish teacher upon first moving to Seattle, where I worked with pre-schoolers (tutoring, outside the classroom), and with 88 students in grades 5-8. As a voice-over artist, I have spent the last half year translating, editing, and voicing daily news programs in Peninsular Spanish for testing and demos with Splash/MSN. As a linguist and traveler, I am well-versed in a variety of dialects. Please also note that, for any multi-media and storytelling needs, I have taught language through film, and am a graduate and scholarship recipient from TheFilmSchool, Seattle.

I believe language education must be a holistic, full-sensory experience in order for an optimal attainment of goals to occur. Language is a matter of need. Language and culture are interdependent. Recognizing the specific needs and true "gestalt" aspect of that which makes us human, our unique ability to communicate, is paramount. In the classroom, boardroom, online, and one-on-one, we work together to employ a host of fun, interactive, and interdisciplinary techniques in the approach to second-language acquisition.

So, feel free to send me an e-mail, and we'll start our fantastic language and culture-learning journey!

In this class, we'll work systematically through the sounds of American English, teaching you how to (literally) work your mouth so you can speak to be understood, and understand when and why you make mistakes, so that you may continue to improve. We work in fun, safe environments, where mistakes are the wonderful things from which we learn and grow. Practice is practical, and homework is there to help you in the real world. Come to class ready to have fun, listen, speak, and work with the physical aspects of language that are so often ignored. With my highly specialized methodologies, developed over 10 years, you will learn and improve before you even realize it! We'll even measure your progress from the beginning of the program to the end, and you WILL see and feel results!

This class will be individually-tailored based upon majority interest. With over a decade's worth of experience acting, writing, and doing voice-overs around the globe, I'm ready to share my knowledge and love for using "your instrument" properly to help you on-stage, in film, or within any number of media that the world of voice-over encompasses.

Here's some info about me. So, you can pick my brain, and we'll move forward to free your voice!

Michelle is a full-time voice-over artist, having studied Voice & Shakespeare with Patsy Rodenburg (Dame Judi Dench and Sir Ian McKellan’s vocal coach) and at the National Voice Intensive. She has also studied with Sergei Shentalinsky (whose teacher’s teacher was Stanislavski) at The School for Russian Art Theatre, in addition to dotcomming it in Chicago, whilst studying Meisner, and hitting the boards for the first time professionally, as an improv artist, and snotty, quasi-Brit, in David-Matthew Barnes’ world premiere of “And the Winner Is…”. Vocally, she has worked with such powerhouses as, EA Games, Microsoft, Big Fish Games, Humongous Entertainment, Atari Kids, Infogrames, McGraw Hill, AOL, The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, Colorado Lottery, Daylight Design, T-Mobile, and many, many more! Much of her voice-over work is bilingual, in Spanish and English. And, she’s been known to be quite the character, from 10-year old boys, to women who sound like Margaret Cho’s mom. A scholarship recipient and member of inaugural class of TheFilmSchool, Michelle promptly proceeded to pinch instructors’ asses whilst receiving her diploma. She can’t remember if this was before or after Tom Skerritt gave her a peck on the lips and called her, “Darlin’”, as she leaned against the Alibi Room’s bar.

Raised on a working cattle ranch on the edge of The Badlands, Michelle went on to live in Bogota, Barcelona, and Basque Country, later to motorcycle through over half a dozen contiguous nations along the Pan-American Highway. Her first formal introduction to the theatre was at Yale, where she created and chronicled an AIM-involved Lakota character, which, to her surprise, received rave reviews and murmurings amongst the Yale faculty. It was they who told her, that wherever she decided to move, she “must go somewhere where she can act”. As a result, she immediately drove to the Rocky Mountains with a gal from Maine whom she’d never met before, and “got pregnant” with her “seventh child” to be Edna Louise on stage in the Ed Graczyk modern classic, “Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean”. She has since focused her writing on rural-urban and cross-cultural themes, producing, writing, and directing such pieces for the stage on both coasts. In Los Angeles she worked commercially, on stage, and in voice-over, and was dubbed, “…a young Meryl Streep, but the funnier Meryl Streep, after she lightened up and started doing comedy”, by casting director, Craig Colvin. Judith Weston (“Directing Actors”, “The Film Director’s Intuition”) calls Michelle’s work, “…so brave…”. Hollywood writer/producer, NAACP Theatre and Emmy award-winning, Michael Ajakwe (TV Professor for the Bill & Camille Cosby-sponsored Guy Alexander Hanks/Marvin H. Miller TV & Screenwriting Fellowship Program at USC, “Eve”, “Moesha”, “Martin”, “Entertainment Tonight”), upon seeing her on stage, called her, and wrote, “…an amazing actress”. Josh Greenberg, Hollywood comedy writer for tv and film, says of her performance as Meryl Streep with the NPR-covered, “All About Walken, “…absolutely loved it..” that she, “…especially killed the crowd.…(figuratively, of course).”

I really love to teach! I have students that range from absolute beginners to quite advanced classical pianists. I truly believe that the playing and study of music are one of life's great ambitions and pleasures.

All my students present to me an opportunity to help them play better by the end of each lesson, and I find that very rewarding!

I am a classically trained, national award winning pianist, and have been playing for over 40 years. B.Music from U.W., Masters level classes at The Manhattan School of Music in NYC, classes at the Berklee College of Music in Boston. I also perform at various clubs in Seattle.

Outside of my private teaching studio, I'm on the music faculty at Holy Names Academy in Seattle and I also work with the kids at Seattle Prep.

Lessons are tailored to each student and usually includes all the basics of ear training, sight reading, fingering, chord chart reading, hand strengthening exercises, music theory and more. For more advanced students, i also use professional recording equipment to record the student's pieces as a teaching tool. These are taken away on CD and can help tremendously in developing critical listening skills, giving the student the opportunity to objectively hear what the audience hears.

$50/lesson for students, $60/lesson for adults. Lessons are generally 45 minutes, and i require a month's payment in advance.
Also, for students who need a demo or audition CD, or just as a gift for friends and family, use of my professional recording studio is offered at your lesson rate, a significant discount from my professional clients. The Piano Studio

Student Testimonials:
Eric: Susan is one of
the most dedicated people I've seen in any field. She brings a complete passion to her work, conveying a deep appreciation
of music, musical technique and the effort required to get better.

Paul: She is a phenomenal player herself, and her instructional approach blends just the right amount of "vegetables" (e.g. counting, sight reading, etc) with ample "desserts" (e.g power chords, blues riffs, easy rock numbers/tabs) to keep me motivated, inspired, and practicing.

Allie: She goes way above and beyond in her efforts to transmit her knowledge and obvious love of the instrument to students. Lessons with Susan are demanding, but are well worth it. She embeds every aspect of music in your mind. Insisting that students learn the fundamentals of music, she sets us up for nothing but success later on.

Peter: The immense amount of information to be learned about jazz techniques can seem incredibly overwhelming at times, but Susan is able to break it up into manageable chunks. She is very passionate about music, and always full of energy and has a positive attitude during every lesson.

I have scored in the top percentiles of all test takers on the verbal and math sections of these tests, and have proven myself to be a successful teacher in assisting people in boosting their scores.

My typical students are those who have discovered most test prep books and commercial courses to be ineffective for their purposes, and who have decided to look for a highly skilled and exceptionally patient teacher for the GMAT, the GRE, and the SAT exams.

Most people incorrectly feel that these tests cannot be studied, but my typical student sees a large increase in his average score. I teach proven skills and techniques for excelling on these exams, which reduce and eliminate feelings of anxiety and fear that are the result of not having a complete understanding of the tests and what to study.

What do I believe? As an American I believe in generosity, in liberty, in the rights of man. These are social and political faiths that are part of me, as they are, I suppose, part of all of us. Such beliefs are easy to express.

Religious experience is highly intimate and, for me, ready words are not at hand. speech, Libertyville, Illinois, May 21, 1954 Alfred Korzybski: There are two ways to slide easily through life:

to believe everything or to doubt everything; both ways save us from thinking. Anatole France: To accomplish great things, we must not only act, but also dream; not only plan, but also believe.

I provide private tutoring for students having trouble with the MCAT. I will help you to master the material, lower your stress and study time, and most importantly, I will help you to improve your score.

I have been teaching these subjects pertinent to the MCAT for over ten years and I have helped literally hundreds of students to increase their MCAT scores. Many of my students have expressed to me that they understand physics and chemistry (and a bunch of supporting math and science) for the first time ever and that they wished that they had begun working with me sooner. I am kind, professional, articulate, and I will work very hard to ensure your success.

The MCAT is a challenging test, but just like anything else with the proper guidance and some hard work, the test is beatable.

Please email me and we can discuss your needs and goals in more detail.

French Lessons/tutoring with Bilingual Paris Native (Capitol Hill)

Bonjour!

Do you need to improve your French?

Are your French reading, writing and conversation skills a little rusty, or maybe have you never taken French lessons before?
My name is Hadrien, I have been giving French lessons in Seattle from the beginner to advanced level for more then a year now, and I can help you.
I also offer translation and interpretation services.

About me:

I was born and raised in Paris, France, and I moved to Seattle about a year ago.
My mother being American, I have always been perfectly bilingual, which makes my lessons very easy to understand. You will find that I have excellent teaching skills, as I used to tutor kids in math when I still lived in Paris, and I was very good at explaining complicated notions in the simplest logic possible.
I am currently working towards transferring to the University of Washington and getting a French Teaching degree there. I graduated from an excellent Paris High School, where I earned a Natural Sciences Diploma (Baccalauréat Scientifique).
One of my best skills was writing, whether in French or English, and I still love to write when I get some free time.

My methods:

Planned in three levels, my Intensive French Course has been based on several French textbooks and websites and on my teaching experience to offer you the opportunity to easily and efficiently reach an exceptional level of the French language.
In addition, conversational techniques and subtleties of the language will be studied in order to give you the ability to broach the American/French social and cultural barriers.
Each lesson will include one or several grammar points, practice exercises, conversational notes, and interactive activities (such as studying videos, texts, books, images, and more).

The first lesson will be absolutely free!

I won't charge you for the first lesson, so we can get to know one another and determine if I am the right teacher for you. Future appointments will be $25.00 per hour.
I live on Capitol Hill and I don't have a car, so it would be best for us to meet in that area.
Being an SCCC student, I have access to little private study rooms there, and they are perfect for one-to-one lessons. We can also meet in one of the many Capitol Hill coffee shops if you like.
Feel free to email me or call me if you have any further questions.

A bientôt j'espère!
(Hope to hear from you soon!)

http://matthewmeldonguitar.com

Hello. I am a guitar teacher with a Bachelor Degree in Jazz from the world renowned CCM conservatory. Though I was trained in jazz improvisation, my musical interests are wide ranging. I have recorded and toured throughout the world as a member of the up and coming band why? (anticon records), which (if you have heard them) is about as far from my jazz background as you can get. I have also studied classical guitar with the respected virtuoso Michael Partington here in Seattle. Still, I have to say my true loves are Neil Young, John Fahey, the Beatles, David Bowie, and the Band. But I still love Radiohead, Deerhoof, Elliot Smith, Joanna Newsom, the Velvet Underground, and many others.

I have been teaching guitar for over ten years now. Having done so, I feel that this is a strength in itself. It took me many years to know what the REAL fundamentals of playing guitar are, how to demonstrate them clearly, and where to start. Many great players still don't make the best teachers. I try and fill both roles. My hope is to bring out the unique musical personality in each of my students by providing them the inspiration, knowledge, and patience it requires to learn any instrument. That being said, I tend to focus the lessons on three areas: technique, learning songs, and sight reading. THESE LESSONS ARE ABOUT SEEING RESULTS. I require my students to practice a minimum of 30 minutes a day. If they stick with this routine, results are soon obvious.

Please give me a call and we will talk about your goals and discuss a schedule. I have numerous references available. I require my students to take weekly lessons and charge $20 for 30 minutes, $35/hour at my studio in Ravenna, $40-45 at your home (schedule permitting). For young children just starting out, 30 minutes is usually fine for them to have enough to practice during the week. I do like to keep the parents involved, overseeing practice routines etc...For more advanced students, you might think about an hour. Feel free to give me a call at (206)306-4745. I look forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Matthew

Music Theory Master! & Jazz Piano technician In-house $100-4hrs? YES! (N.seattle or Your Home)

The main thing i can guarantee is quickness. Ex... A student I have now has only taken lessons from me for four months. Prior to that she has only had classical training and didn't know what jazz was. Going into the six grade she made eighth grade jazz band!!!WOW... How is that Possible? With precise education in music and psychology, I am able to simplify music down to the bottom, So now you see a way you never have and can identify with music more intimately! I am a Jazz Band Director, Music Educator, composer, and professional pianist. I will explain why parents (Children) and adults choose me to educate them musically. MUSIC TEACHERS CHEAT THEIR STUDENTS ALL THE TIME!!!!!! ESPECIALLY CHILDREN AND I DEPLORE IT!!!!! How do they do that. First off, they charge x amount of dollars per month, maybe more for only two hours???? Gees i hope your piano teacher is Mozart for that much money as i come from an environment where children (including myself) couldn't learn music because they couldn't afford the lessons . You see they're heart is truly with the money and not you or the music.... Then they don't even teach you right. They just feed you sheet music and useless technique and cant wait until the lesson is over. Me, I always go over the lesson, I'm so passionate and you will learn everything you need to know to branch out on your own! So i get students who come to me and say they have had lessons for years, so when i assess them I find they haven't even been taught the true basics. This means they probably weren't taught but rather instructed. I'm going to put those teachers out of business. Money doesn't grow on trees so i offer budget negotiations as well. You see if it was really about the music and your learning then other teachers would offer more time or less money. And NO! its not a matter of what i think I'm worth its just about having the right heart. I have plenty of living proof of my students who are all becoming. I have taught music and piano at Eckstein Middle School (2008-present) in Wedgewood and Hamilton. Lessons: So you will learn how to read music! Compose Music? Music theory (My specialty which leads to simplification) Interpret the language of music(fake books- Chord symbols) learn various jazz styles and piano styles. Bonus: All the learning materials. I have all the sheet music and music reference books you can imagine. So you will stay with the top notch learning materials and all the songs you want. I CAN COVER R&B, ROCK, BLUES AND EVEN STUDIO MUSIC?PRODUCING. You will watch educational movies and attend concerts. Optional. All that not individually priced, Just the best offer. PRICE $100 -4-hrs- Can be negotiated for less fortunate or budgeting Families... Email or Call Juston (818)438-8950

About a year ago I was referred by friends to Don Werth to teach my 5-year old son how to play piano. Don comes to our house every weekend for a 30-minute lesson. My short-attention-span son actually enjoys it! I am 40 and I also decided to take a lesson once a month (I also have short attention span). I was really surprised how quickly I was playing... Don had me playing a jazz tune on my second week. I have kept it up for almost a year now and am moving into classical.

If you have a piano at home and are looking for a teacher, I would highly recommend Don... particularly if you have children that want to learn. He is so great with kids (for example my son is crazy about dinosaurs and Don actually found a music book with dinosaur music). Don lives in Seattle but many of his clients, like me, are on the east side. His rates are absolutely competitive and in line with everything else you see on craigslist.

Don does not have e-mail so I told him I would post this for him to help him find some new clients... if you see this ad and you are looking for in-home piano lessons in the greater Seattle area, you should really consider calling Don and tell him you saw this posting from his client (John in Bellevue) on craigslist. He'd welcome the call and I'm sure he'd be happy to do a one-time lesson just to give you a chance to determine if it's the right fit.

Don's number is 206-354-3696. If you want to call me (John) for more information, feel free: 206-245-8855.

I've been a certified personal trainer for the past three years and pride myself in helping my clients attain their goals. I'd love to meet with you and discuss your goals whether they be just needing a little guidance or those of you not even sure where to begin. I work with small groups or individuals and can come to you or provide the space for us to workout. I'm dedicated not only to training you but teaching you lifelong skills on how to be healthy and work out efficiently.

Please don't be concerned with the price, I have several package options, welcome bartering and always meet with my clients up front for their initial fitness assessment and to go over rates prior to commitment. The initial meeting is important to make sure we are a good fit and to create a communicated plan to reach your goals that is agreeable ad manageable for all parties involved.

I look forward to fielding your questions and working with you. :)
Thanks so much, Caitlin
