Blue Nile, the leading online retailer of diamonds and fine jewelry, is seeking a Database Administrator to join our Data & Analytics team. Our database infrastructure is based on Oracle technologies that support our website, ecommerce engine, data warehouse, and ERP environment running Oracle eBusiness Suite.

Our Data & Analytics team is a relatively small, closely knit team, allowing members to share the opportunity to work on a wide breadth of new technologies and systems. Members of this team work directly with both business and technology users. This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to use their skills in database technologies while broadening their knowledge in both Oracle, and non-Oracle technologies (BI, web analytics), and business.

Responsibilities:

• Day-to day operations of a fast-paced database environment (Oracle 11i (ERP) and 10g): OLTP and Data Warehouse systems
• Work on a variety of development and maintenance projects along with other groups of the company. Work closely with developers and business users on the requirements, systems analysis, design, and implementation of new systems in all environments
• Work with other members of the team on RDBMS best practices, guiding their interaction with the RDBMS environment and related applications
• Involved in database design and data modeling effort, doing logical design and physical design, maintenance of data model for various applications, making recommendations and providing guidance to other teams in the data modeling effort
• Doing database installation, upgrades, patches, cloning (for ERP system) and troubleshooting
• Database backup and recovery (RMAN based), also involved in the disaster recovery strategy and testing
• Doing database performance tuning including helping developer with SQL tuning.
• Database monitoring and notification and sharing a 24/7 on-call rotation with other team members
• Ensure the quality, consistency and security of company data and database systems in accordance with regulatory compliance requirements for Sox and PCI.
• Work closely with Web Operations team on capacity planning, performance testing, and monitoring
• Making sure data is refreshed regularly and efficiently in various systems (QA, DEV etc) from the production
• Maintaining and developing various database related unix scripts, PL/SQL code etc
• Evaluating and recommending RDBMS features (current and future release).
• Involved in the requirement phase as a RDBMS subject matter expert
• Learn new technologies and develop expertise in them with time

Qualifications:

• Highly motivated, self starter and show initiative
• Strong team player, who is able to work with folks with diverse background (technical and non-technical)
• Good understanding of Oracle database and ERP architecture on a Unix/Linux platform, with 3 + years of enterprise Oracle DBA experience in a Unix environment running/supporting business critical (web based) applications
• Understanding of web based concepts and technologies
• Understanding of Oracle 10g database (architecture) and its features including but not limited to data guard, rman, replication, etc
• Familiar with Software Development Lifecycle
• Understanding of OLTP & Data Warehouse (terabyte) systems:concepts, challenges, etc
• Understanding of data modeling and database design
• Experience in Unix shell scripting, PL/SQL and SQL
• Understanding of web analytics area(optional)
• Understanding of BI:concepts, tools e.g. Hyperion,Cognos etc (Optional)
• Good written and verbal communication skills
