The Clinical Information Systems/Education department is an integral lifeline to the Swedish operation, and is currently seeking a Surgical RN Trainer (CIS Education and Support Specialist).

CIS Education and Support Specialist – Surgical RN

On a day-to-day basis the CIS Education and Support Specialist provides competency based learning and ongoing support to ensure that the Swedish workforce uses the clinical information system (Epic) efficiently and effectively. The position analyzes educational needs, identifies issues, and makes recommendations in curriculum development, class teaching, or implementation support, based on knowledge of the system and user requirements.

The position acts as a resource to other CIS department staff or outside vendors for education requirements. It requires mastering and teaching specific curricula, implementing specific classroom and electronic learning formats, supporting learners during self-study, documenting learner competencies in a learning management system, evaluating the results of classes, evaluating training materials for accuracy and clarity.

This position also provides onsite support to users during the implementation and post implementation periods, applying expert understanding of the system and user’s work processes to specific areas.

The position may require days, nights, evenings, and weekend work to support implementations. The position may require being on-call to answer questions by phone during days, nights, evenings, and weekends.

Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant clinical or healthcare discipline, computer technology, informatics, or education preferred. 1:1 equivalency of relevant work experience may substitute for each year of college not completed. This equivalency is in addition to the minimum work experience listed below.
- A minimum of three years experience in a relevant clinical, healthcare, or clinical computer technology field strongly preferred, of which at least two years was providing classroom educational activities as part of the job experience, for example, providing courses like CPR, new software training, or continuing education programs. The candidate has served as an active participant in the successful completion of one go-live or upgrade implementation of a major system-wide software application such as EPIC, PeopleSoft, SAP or Oracle or has supported a clinical information system functionality such as a module in Epic (i.e. ASAP or Ambulatory EpiCare) or Cerner or Intellidose or equivalent EMR.
- Surgical RN experience, including intra-op, pre-op or post-op experience preferred.
- Experience with the Epic OpTime module is also preferred.
- Will also consider candidates who do not have relevant work experience in clinical, healthcare, or clinical computer technology fields if they can demonstrate that they have developed and conducted training programs or workshops for company management and staff or in an adult education setting including higher education or adult education or staff development for a minimum of four years. Higher education is defined as community college, college, etc. and adult education setting can include organizations like non-profits or companies, or public services, etc. Will have conducted classroom training or workshops using adult learning techniques, which can include training or workshops to facilitate development of management skills, technical and sales training, etc.
- Epic Certification or Epic Proficiency preferred; or ability to obtain Epic Proficiency or Epic Credentialing within three months of starting in position.
- Epic Credentialing is defined as demonstrating ability to teach Epic curriculum via the Swedish credentialing process.
- Epic Proficiency is demonstrated by passing the written Epic examinations in relevant modules. Epic Certification is demonstrated by passing the written Epic examinations in relevant modules and passing the demonstration project. Certification is obtained by traveling to Madison, WI.
