Crazy stories about crazy people...

My father lost his marbles back in the 70's. He held us captive in the house saying that the neighbor was a Satan worshiper. When the phone rang, he swore the house would blow sky high if we answered it. I was 12. It changed me forever.

My friend's mother is schizophrenic. She thinks Audrey Hepburn is her sister, and once jumped out of her car on I-5 because aliens were attacking her. Her children sat in the back seat and watched in horror. It changed them forever.

My girlfriend's husband has borderline personality disorder. Sometimes he loves her, sometimes he hates her. It changes her every day.

We all try to hide it, too embarrassed to talk about our crazy parents, husbands, brothers, mothers, or even our crazy selves.

But guess what? We're not alone. You are not alone. I know, because I took it upon myself to do a little experiment. Tired of hiding my father's mental disorder, I started talking about it - even with people who I assumed had these perfect little lives. I've been talking about it for two years (with dad's permission of course!), and every single person I've spoken to said, "Me Too!"

So I've got a blog that's about 2 seconds old, and you're welcome to read and share anonymously or otherwise. Tell your story! Be shy and anonymous or bold and blatant. It's all good! It's time to bring some healing to the millions of people out there who are hiding and living in a self-created prison of unnecessary shame and isolation. It's O.K.! We're all out of our minds!

We are a country that loves diversity. And teaching your children that trait is very important. That's why I think being an exchange student host-family is one of the most powerful ways to help change the world; one kid at a time!

I have been involved in host-family stuff for over 4 years and I have been utterly shocked at the bravery, courage and downright nerve of these kids who come to our country eager to learn and to meet us Americans. (You wouldn't know that by the news headlines sometimes would you??)

This young woman from far down in Mexico is a perfect example. She is looking for a host-family in Washington State�..just 'cause she thought it would be cool. She lists herself as "16-11 months" on her application, obviously a very precise young woman. She loves reading, skating, soccer, fishing, tennis, animals, choir, art and the movies. She writes that she is very close to her 19 year old brother, parents and especially her grandmother.

She is very excited about finding a host-family for this coming school year. You know that any student from our company comes with all her own money, insurance and is highly screened by our company and already placed in a school near your home. Don't have to worry about the shape of our economy�..all she needs is a great American welcome, her own bed and a dinner plate at your table. Sharing a room with a same-gender host-sister is fine too, no need for her own room. So it doesn't cost your family anything extra.

It is so much fun to share our American Holidays with these students. So much different from theirs. One Christmas we had all the students share one thing from their country that was different from our traditions. Everyone learned something new!

To make a long story short, some company out of Seattle called, Experticity, is thinking it would be a good idea to out-source customer service in such stores as Stapples, Home Depot, and all other retailers, including those at the malls. Somehow,they did a study, which I'm sure non of us were in on, that "We" as the public would prefer to speak to someone from a kiosk in the store, rather than face to face. *Seattle Women�s Hockey Club (SWHC) is sponsoring two free events this summer for women aged 18 onward to experience hands on the growing sport of hockey. Our 5th Annual �Give Hockey a Try� is being held Sunday, July 20th at the Lynnwood Ice Arena in Lynnwood from 1:45 to 2:45 pm (arrive 30 minutes early to put on gear.) The club has hockey equipment available to lend (if you don�t have your own) from skates to helmet and everything between. We�ve also got sticks, pucks, ice and a seasoned coach to teach everyone some hockey basics before a mini-scrimmage, all at no charge.

*Give it a try whether you have any skating experience or not. Participants also receive a digital photo of themselves in hockey gear and a Certificate of Accomplishment. This is a unique opportunity to get introduced to hockey or reacquainted with it in a friendly, supportive environment. Club members will be available on the ice and in the rink to help you put on the gear and answer questions about hockey opportunities in the Seattle area.

...I know that it's a lot of money to some people out there. I also know that 100.00 is nothing to others. I wouldn't be posting this on here if I wasn't desperate. I am a bit behind on my car payment and I work 25-30 miles from home. So, I really do need to have my car. Yes, I could take the bus, but honestly, I'm just making it with other bills right now. I barely made rent and I'm almost 2 months behind on my car payment. I'm a female in my mid twenties and have considered myself to be a very hardworking, honest person. I have credit issues from my past when I was much younger and am slowly starting to repair those issues. On Tuesday, August 5th, neighborhoods throughout Tualatin are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "25th Annual National Night Out" (NNO) crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Tualatin Police Department, will involve over 11,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world. In all, over 35 million people are expected to participate in �America's Night Out Against Crime' on August 5th.

National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Here's the deal. My mom has a small organic farm in sourthern Missouri and produces almost all of her own food. She wants to give someone an opportunity to try a new way of life and help her around the farm. My brother and I are hoping to find someone who is interested in this sort of life who would be able to learn from our mom. We both love her very much but he's living in Chicago and I am in Toronto, and so we're in no position to help. She is in her early 50s, lives alone, very liberal, and has many many animals (dogs, cats, cows, turkeys, horses, bees, rabbits, chickens, etc). She is an advocate of permaculture, organic lifestyles, and sustainability. She would love to have someone who is interested in learning about these things too. In return for help, she will provide room and board at her place, and there is no sort of contract to get stuck in. While she is not very materialistic, she does have a vehicle, internet, phone, and local tv, so you would not be living in isolation.

Ideally, you are a young, liberal-minded person who is interested in trying new things. You are welcome to try it out (i.e. come visit for a few weeks and see if this is something you are interested in), before deciding. Do you have young children with allergy symptoms such as eczema or asthma or even psoriasis?

I recently decided to go green with this great wellness company. Since I've switched to their non-toxic, all natural products (household cleaners, detergents, body wash, shampoos, lotions, vitamins, pantry items, etc) my oldest son no longer has eczema and he had had it since he was a few months old, he's now 3 1/2. My youngest is 2 and he's had the worst cracked skin between his toes since he was a few months old also, it's now gone. I had psoriasis which I had gotten after my first son was born and it's gone now too. I was glad to see that we are not the only disgruntled foster parents. After five years of being foster parents, my husband and I are calling it quits. Case in point: we had a sibling group of three who we were told would in all likelihood never be returned to the birth parent. After nearly three years in the foster system they returned the children to their birth mother. A single mother, working part-time, on section 8 housing. At the age of 26 she now has all five of her children back. Taxpayer dollars at your service. DSHS mantra: reunification above all else. We'll miss the hugs and smiles and all the special moments that only a child can bring; but the grief and constant battling
(advocating on behalf of the children) with the system will not. Foster parenting: Think twice.

This poster is so right. We are licensed foster parents. After several problems, not just with the kids, but with the agency, we told them "no more". We refused to do it any longer. The agencies treat foster parents like trash when you see something that you feel is really wrong and you tell them. I have seen first hand why these agencies are lousey and why the kids end up suffering in the system or being returned to bad homes. The foster parenting system, as it is, really sucks. DON'T DO IT...It's much harder than you will ever know and much worse than I can even find the words on here to say.
