WORLD WAR II U.S. Navy Ship's LOCKER-Steel, BRONZE Highlights (North Seattle ) $195

In order to do justice to this item, this description is long. I apologise for that.
DESCRIPTION/SPECS:
~Used on U.S. Navy ship of the Pacific Fleet during World War II, this locker helped keep the ship organised and in "ship shape". Organisation and order were an especially cricial task in a Pacific Ocean loaded with small islands, crannies and enemy ships everywhere. It was extremely important to get the ship where it was most needed with maximum effieiency in a predictable, timely, punctual fashion. Ship had to stay on course and maintain its course. Not as easy as it sounds, especially in unfamiliar, complicated and hostile waters!
~67 1/2" High, 22" Wide, 15" Deep U.S. Navy ship's locker is made of rugged, thick, heavy steel with bronze plaque on front and strong, intricate bronze and steel hardware highlights.
~All data and its story can be authenticated by the guy who obtained it directly off the ship (story below).
~Locker is in excellent shape despite its surface appearances. At first sight, the rust looks shocking, but it is nowhere near as bad as it looks. It is only surface rust, eliminated with elbow grease, a sander, and a paint job. Sides, rear and interior have much less rust .
~Everything else is tough, of extra high-grade manufacture, and works like a champ! These things were made to last during a war! This is just my opinion, but I'd be willing to bet that these were engineered, designed and made specially for maritime wartime use. The specs of it are of superior grade!
~Steel body of locker is strengthened by an extra steel frame on front and by overlapping steel corners and edges elsewhere. Door also has an extra frame of steel around it and strengthening struts. Door is attached by three heavy-duty hinges. Front of locker door has a bronze plaque with the number "5" prominently etched into it.
~Two large door vents help air the interior. Lock can be hooked onto heavy-duty door latch, and it is extremely strong, well-made and rugged. A complicated mechanism inside door clicks onto place when knob is turned, effectively closing the locker door tightly at three places. The system works very similar to a large bank vault door, just a simpler version.
~Inside locker are three sturdy reinforced shelves and larger compartment at the bottom. This last has a place to hang uniform shirts, jackets, gear, etc. Inside of door has two brass towel or tie bars.
~Sides of locker have several holes that look to be for mounting hardware. Possibly other accessories were attached on interior or exterior.
PROVENANCE/STORY:
~This ship's locker was purchased quite a while ago by my 78 year old friend and business partner, David. It was obtained in 1958/59, directly off a World War II U.S. Navy ship being decommissioned, dismantled and scrapped. At that time, about fifteen years after the War, it was considered out of date, antiquated, left-over junk, and a relic of World War II. If the ship were still around now, it and its contents would be considered precious and to have great historical value!
~The entire puget Sound area was a major point of activity and strategic location for Naval Operations in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. It was logical for the ship to end its days here, as did many other ships like it. At the time and even now, the Seattle-Tacoma area has had an abundance of large shipyards and a trained labour force, very capable of taking on the task of decommissioning a Navy ship. The abundance of naval facilities, bases and installations meant that many ships were brought back home here to end their days.
~Being just out of the military, David had somehow gotten word from a friend that they were dismantling and scrapping the ship in Tacoma. So he drove to Tacoma from Seattle in 1958 or 59 because he wanted to get some World War II souvenirs of the Pacific Fleet. And he succeeded in doing just exactly that! He was in the right place at the right time! Everybody knew (and still knows!) that the Pacific Fleet had had much more than their fair share of some pretty gruesome acton during the War. So if you're going to get memorabilia, that was THE perfect time and place to do it!
~The ship was actually starting to be cut into pieces as David was snooping around on her. He said it was eery because everything from the original ship was still in place: all accessories, fixtures, chart material, etc., as if the ship were still in use. It was all really beautiful, superbly made, designed and engineered stuff! All detachable hardware and accessories were being removed and tossed to melt down for scrap. A lot of brass, bronze, copper, steel, and some iron. David succeeded in obtaining the ship's locker and the helmsman's chart light right off the wall in the pilot house! The perfect place at the perfect time! I wish I'd been there!
~I love this story he told me so much that I'm relating it here for people to appreciate. I'm sure there is more to the story that isn't being said! So now the locker is still here by a lucky series of events, in working shape, and in need only of a bit of loving care. I wish it could talk and tell me its history and stories! I'd make a million bucks!
~This extra large, utilitarian locker was made to what were surely U.S. Navy specs. I've never seen one like it! Usually all military items have s serial number that matches up with a description, but so far I have not found one. The locker was intended for rugged, most likely intense, wartime use on board a naval vessel. It is superbly designed and engineered for that purpose. It is a one-of-a-kind item that is now difficult to find anywhere. Truly a piece of history!
~Also have tons of other militaria and cases-- also antiques, furniture, collectables, junk, odds and ends, and other stuff! Call/E-mail us! Info below.
~We're not a store or anything! Just have WAY too much stuff and no space! Call Craig/John at 206-782 9233, David at 206-391 8802, or email whenever you wish with any questions, for more photos, or for more info! Some of the items are common and inexpensive. Most have some interesting stories behind them that I'd gladly share! Ask about ANY other items that you are looking for--I bet we have them!

~A Milkshake/Float/Drink Maker such as this is an icon of the 1950's hamburger joint, drugstore soda fountain, diner, bar. This one is vintage, and most likely dates from the 1960's or 1970's.
~Also have tons of other bar, drug store and kitchen gadgets, antiques, collectables, junk and other stuff! Let me know what you need!
~Same model has been made before that for many decades, I believe since the turn of the century. Hamilton Beach patented the machine, chrome agitator and mixing cup, so the style has largely remained the same throughout many years. This one is Model 727AL, in Almond colour.
~Just above 14" high, standing on stable pedestal, motor on top has two speeds.
~Head with motor tilts and pivots up to easier accomodate the chrome mixing cup. 6" high, wide chrome cup fits onto hook and bracket, suspended in the air above counter. Chrome mixer/agitator is removable for easy clean up.
~Original box included has a colour picture of Mickey Rooney dressed as a soda fountain jerk recommending or endorsing the unit. Background is a soda fountain
~Makes traditional milk shakes, sodas and floats, as well as drinks (Margaritas), salad dressings, omellettes, cake or pancake batter, and many more items.
