Increase your boating knowlege. Take USCG approved Captain's course.
Attention Boaters, Fishing Guides, Tour Guides, or anyone who wants to improve their boating knowledge. Due to traffic congestion on the 520 bridge Zenith Maritime is offering a USCG approved 6-pack class in Kirkland, Wa

Many (now more than ever before) mariners are taking our classes just for the education. You go home with more knowledge and a nice certificate suitable for framing. What I have found is the basic boaters eduction safety class us insufficient for what mariners needs are. Students have told me it was just a basic class that skims the surface of what any boater should know. BBESC is best suited for new boaters that want to get an idea of what boating is all about. But do you learn all the rules of the water ways?

For example when I was in Port Townsend, Wa last year standing night watch on a small cruise ship, I saw two very small boats (looked like USCG fast patrol boats) with 3 lights on a pole. It was colored Red, White, Red. Do you know what that means? What do the Federal Rules (72 Col-Regs) say you should do when you see these light? Or how about this, you see a boat with a Red light over a Green light, what do those light mean and do they have the right of way over you? If you dont know what these lights are, well you should. Its like knowing what a stop sign or yield sign on the road ways. Leaning the rules of the water ways, I always like to say, if you can drive a car you can pilot a boat. Rules are very similar for a boats as for a cars. There just a bit odd looking at times. I have an interesting way to teach you how to memorize all the lights. Even a 5 year old can learn them. Email me if you want a web link for proof of this.

When you complete this class you can use the certificate in lieu of taking the USCG licensing exams. Zenith Maritime is USCG approved for OUPV (Operator Un-inspected Passenger Vessel) licensing or also called 6-pack license. If you plan to receive payment from your passengers for transporting them on your boat, then you must have a USCG license to receive pay for piloting any boat (Yes, even in your little kayak with one passenger). This class is one of your first steps into obtaining a USCG license for piloting up to an un-inspected vessel less than 100 GR tons carrying not more than 6 paying passengers. Also note, if you want to turn in your certificate to get your captain's license then you also USCG needs 360 days of documented water time in order for the USCG to issue your license, we'll show you how you can document the time all the way back to your 15th birthday. Basically its to prove to the USCG that you know what a boat is and you have been on one.

Training starts May 5th at the Heritage Hall in Kirkland, Washington. This is a 18-day class (Monday thru Thursday from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.). In class you will learn how to navigate using a paper chart (The back up to GPS), Rules of the Road, Safety Procedures, and Marine Laws. License exams are taken in class. No need to take test at USCG. Cost of the course is $1,000 includes all materials and exam fees, excluding re-exam fees (we give you 3 tries to pass your exams. Most students pass by the second try).

Class dates are May 5th-8th, 12th-15th, 19th-22nd, 26th-29th, exams on June 2nd-3rd. Please register at Zenith Maritime website ( http://www.zenithmaritime.com ) or contact me for any questions you might have.
