MarketFitz is seeking a Data and Market Research Analyst to perform research and analytics projects, including data validation, analysis, business intelligence and dashboard reporting of detailed sales and retail data, as well as the development and interpretation of surveys, focus group scripts and other research tools.
Overview of Role:
This position will be responsible for designing and conducting research and analytics projects on behalf of clients, project managing consulting engagements, and working with senior team members to sell new consulting engagements to new and existing clients. This person’s responsibilities include:
• Processing, validating, analyzing, summarizing and reporting on weekly sales data for a major client with multiple product lines and distribution channels.
• Developing research approach and study tools required to accomplish goals outlined by the client.
• Managing the execution of studies, overseeing other team members as required.
• Analyzing and interpreting results, writing reports and presentations to deliver insights to clients.
• Drafting proposals and case studies for business development purposes.
Detailed Job Responsibilities: This position will serve two major functions. The first is the routine analytics requirements of a single major client. The second includes the market research requirements of multiple smaller consulting engagements.
For the analytics client, this individual will:
Run weekly pre-programmed SQL queries on newly uploaded data.
Work with excel and access databases to validate the data for accuracy and omissions and to highlight trends or changes.
Identify errors and troubleshoot with client and company resources. Determine root cause, such as a business trend or error in the data stream.
Once errors are corrected, apply business, retail, trend and market analysis to interpret and summarize trends related to key performance indicators. Provide summary and insights for strategy team.
Prepare and publish weekly reports and assist strategy team with executive summary.
Project manage deliverables for this client, including the maintenance weekly logs, timelines and milestones.
The firm’s market research engagements are more varied. This work is likely to include:
Work with a senior team member to define the approach required to achieve client objectives.
Develop the tools required, including surveys and focus group scripts.
Project manage logistics surrounding research engagements, including identifying subcontractors or vendors, setting up focus groups, monitoring progress against response rate objectives, etc.
Research and monitor competitors or industries to identify trends
Review and clean up data to remove incomplete or duplicate responses.
Analyze and interpret the results.
Make preliminary recommendations, based on interpretations, to the senior team member.
Draft reports and prepare PowerPoint presentations to relate the story to the client.
Manage project budgets and timelines to ensure results are delivered on time and within the budget quoted to the client.
Required Skills & Experience:
Proficiency with a variety of database systems and modeling tools, to manipulate and analyze highly detailed, complex data sets.
Experience running pre-programmed SQLqueries, master of Microsoft Excel and Access databases.
Experience building PowerPoint presentations.
Strong analytical skills to spot errors and trends.
Proven track record of exceptional attention to detail and data accuracy.
Retail and consumer products background to apply market knowledge to the data.
Experience building tables, writing procedures and views for a production environment, and testing and validating results.
Experience designing research approaches to address information needs.
Experience developing surveys and other research tools.
Familiarity with common market research concepts, practices and procedures.
Experience analyzing and interpreting market research.
Strong organizational skills.
Strong client service skills, including a responsive, respectful, pro-active, and professional demeanor.
Ability to deliver time sensitive, weekly analysis and reporting.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and ability to work with internal and client teams.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field, with 3-5 years of experience in similar roles.
